In the past week we've learned ICE has secured property to build human warehouses in Merrimack, NH and Williamsport, MD. Just some facts I think bear repeating.

We are all responsible for what happens in our community.
Highlighting the speaker who stood in front of the Surprise mayor and told him to consider what the Mayor of Ohrdruf must’ve thought before he died by suicide: “He might have thought ‘how is this my fault I had no jurisdiction over this’ maybe he said ‘this site was not subject to local zoning.’”

We have used many metaphors for interstellar visitors to our Solar System: tourists, cosmic driftwood, fossils. But whatever metaphor we use, they're relics from other stars that reveal things we cannot otherwise learn. 🧪🔭🐡

Remember the incident where DHS claimed officers shot a guy because he attacked them with a snow shovel?

Yeah. It didn't happen. They shot him through the door of his own home. And then arrested him. And then lied about it. Again.

And they almost shot some kids in the process.
They just blindly shot through the fucking door.

"Additional photographs show damage consistent with a bullet fragment lodged in a bedroom wall down the hallway — suggesting it traveled between a mattress and a portable crib in a room where several small children sleep."
"Photographic evidence from the shooting scene of a Venezuelan man by federal agents last month in Minneapolis supports the account of witnesses there – and appears to undercut the narrative provided by federal officials." www.startribune.com/ice-raids-mi...

What if the fragmentation of media into the niche-focused attention economy also happened to education & business... like, what if we rejected the idea of too big to fail across the board? I'd love to see mergers & acquisitions go the way of the dinosaurs.

Just as a quick note while we discuss all the new (and familiar) names in the Epstein files: be careful about saying "everyone knows" about prominent people who are predators. People new to the field, people less connected (often marginalized folks), people who are adjacent, etc. may not know.

Ooof. Yup.
" We're talking about a system that has failed to contain superintelligence before it even exists."
Amodei is clearly interested in and nervous about politics, but seems constrained in the ways he can talk and maybe even think about them. In the world he's building into, we'll be in trouble well short of "powerful Al." We're basically doomed already!

Private corporations are profiting from this horrible mistreatment of people. The cruelty is by design.
Rep. Morrison on conditions at Whipple: "She said, 'they are treating us like animals in here. The women that are in this cell with me, we slept on a cold concrete floor last night. We were begging for a blanket, & guards were cruel'... we have to resolve that every single person deserves dignity"
