Deb Richardson - Former Mozillian, current Red Hatter, originator of Linuxchix and the Mozilla Developer Network among other open sourcey shenanigans. Also pretty deeply into pottery, boardgaming, and reading.
Taking PTO tomorrow and Friday to participate in a local wood kiln firing. It's gonna be cold, but totally worth it for the opportunity to talk pots with other potters while chucking wood into a kiln.

According to reports, ICE officers are being told to trust the results of a faulty facial recognition app over evidence of citizenship.

The Trump administration is steamrolling our due process and privacy rights to support its mass deportation agenda.
You Can't Refuse To Be Scanned by ICE's Facial Recognition App, DHS Document Says
Photos captured by Mobile Fortify will be stored for 15 years, regardless of immigration or citizenship status, the document says.

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.

Hey photography pals -- Flickr is overpriced garbage at this point, so I'm looking for a new place to host photos that isn't just a file listing system like Google Drive. What are the best options (ideally free, but < $10/mo would do)?

First time trying to use Flickr in a few years and it is completely broken and utterly useless to me. And this just after my pro subscription renewed. Yay.

A reminder that the original Hallowe'en jack o' lanterns date back to 18th century Ireland if not earlier, were based on a shady boozy blacksmith called Stingy Jack who cheated the devil & was trapped between 2 worlds, were carved from turnips and looked like this:

Picture from the beginning of my beach walk this morning. I went out about an hour before low tide, walking 2km out and back to the furthest point you can see in this picture. More details about tides and how insane they are here in the alt text of the image.

I've been doing pottery for 2 years now, and I'm still completely obsessed. A little sad I didn't discover it like 30 years ago, but so it goes. I'm in the process of going deep into learning about how to make and test and tweak my own glazes and I'm utterly giddy about it. Fired the kiln...

Exclusive: OpenAI is planning to release a new version of its Sora video generator, which creates videos featuring copyrighted material unless copyright holders opt out of having their work appear.

Signed up for a 16 week glaze chemistry course including lectures, labs, and extra reading. Starts next week, and I'm very excited about it. It's also a prereq for a more advanced course that I'm hoping to do in the spring.

It might almost be time to start blogging about my pottery journey. Trick is that I write for a living, so my writer brain gets used up much of the time. But...at some point I'm gonna have to start selling some of this stuff, and showing it and talking about it is gonna be how that's gonna happen.
