Not that we all feel great regardless, but just a reminder that it's normal to feel sad, agitated, off, etc on trauma anniversaries. This week marks a collective trauma anniversary of the onset of COVID in the US. Give yourself permission to slow down and feel. Take good care of one another.

Right now there is clear, overwhelming opposition to Mahmoud Khalil’s abduction across the moderate, liberal, progressive & left spectrum. This kind of loud unity is what authoritarians are afraid of. To keep it up we need every institution & public leader to join the chorus.

Hey fam, here's a letter that goes with our op-ed to University leadership to show support for race conscious, accessible, and inclusive education. Even when we expect the least from these institutions, we can demand more.
Hope this helps to practice hope today! docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Submitted my tenure file for year 1 review on Friday and then slept for the first time in weeks. I feel like a new human.

Once I accepted this framing — that I am being trained to accept the disposability of my fellow humans & the Earth (so many things qualify: Gaza, prisons, homelessness, pipelines), I became so much clearer about my politics.
Reminder: we are being trained not to care about other people. It underlines the attacks on migrants, on DEI, on trans youth, on so-called "wokeness."

Sure there are legitimate critiques but this is not about critiques. It's about supercharging capitalism's culture of uncare.

So the Department of Education opened up its anti-DEI portal so people can narc on educators. It would be a shame if it got flooded with inaccurate reports, wouldn't it?

🤣 This is also me 😭
You know that scene from Parks and Rec where April thinks there are only 30 days in March so she schedules 94 meetings on 31 March?

Turns out I said "talk to me in the spring semester" to so many side quests, all of which were really cool but I didn't think through what this spring would look like

Spending my bday doing the thing I love the most: teaching. Very grateful for another year on this god forsaken planet and for students who make everything worth it.

Really loving this app and how it feels like when the other app first came out. Did anyone else tweet by texting 404-04 back in those days? Just realized I still have that number saved in my phone 😂

I did it. All the review files are drafted. Now I spend way too many hours uploading evidence to support the documents. #progress

Feeling really grateful to be spending the weekend with California’s Youth&Government and the youth Board of Ed. Dreaming up new education policies and elective classes in this moment just hits different.

Feeling so freaking gloomy today about IES. The field of education is going to suffer for many years because of all the knowledge lost from these cancelled contracts.

The tenure file update no one has asked for: I have a full draft of my research statement (good grief that sucked) and halfway through teaching. Words are on paper.

I have written exactly one of four documents required for my first tenure file review and I’ve decided I’m going to use this app to hold myself accountable to finishing the rest EARLY. Putting it out there now: no 11th hour writing for me k thanksss

California is providing more food benefits for people in Los Angeles impacted by the recent firestorms.

Starting February 10th, I encourage eligible people to apply for CalFresh benefits, which will allow more people to access and put more food on the table.

My university is providing really helpful guidance on how faculty can help navigate new executive orders. Curious to hear from others— how have your institutions handling this? Ex: We are being told to help students *remove* any written documentation of immigration status. 1/
