I have been thinking about patience, impatience, and abuse of patience.

Look at what I wrote about it on the shoulders of al-Ghazali and Liz Bucar.

What is pettiness? Is it always morally problematic? I wrote a new post on Substack about these questions. Take a look and let me know what you think.

My latest reviews for Greece & Rome are out (and OA)!

I review Fractured Goodness by Ch. Shields, G. Pearson's Aristotle on What Emotions Are, Stoic Eros by S. Shogry, Ch. Graf's Seneca's Affective Cosmos, M. Anderson's Just Prospering?, and Ch. Moore's The Virtue of Agency.

Publishing a journal article in 2025 but in volume 32, issue 2, 2024(!) is like the paradox in the Zhuangzi of going to Yue today and arriving yesterday.

I find it usually annoying, but it's fitting for a paper about time.

In No Time at All: τὸ ἐξαίφνης in Plato’s Parmenides 156c–e - Volume 32, Issue 2, December 2024
In this paper, I discuss Plato’s famous passage about τὸ ἐξαίφνης (to exaiphnēs) in Plato’s Parmenides 156c–e. I argue that we should resist interpreting this notion as a subset of the now (to nun). I...

I'm so excited about these book arrivals. They look great.

The one on the Stoics immediately makes me want to write about the diversity of Stoic metaphysics, but I'll report later what I think of it.

What is an instant? Is it in time? Plato's Parmenides has a famous, weird, and difficult passage that discusses these questions.

In this paper, I offer my take on it.

Despite my reviewer 2 best efforts, I also discuss Star Trek transporters and Thanos.

I am a climate scientist and this is correct ⬇️
Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.
