Happy anniversary to our beloved Abbey Road LP, a spry 56 years old today and sounding as freshly fab as it did Sept. 26, 1969, the day it was released. Usual shameless promo: Catch up on Abbey Road’s deep roots in the Beatles’ Get Back sessions here: theymaybeparted.com/tag/abbey-ro...

How long are Labour people going to watch while Starmer stumbles from disaster to disaster: Deputy PM and US ambassador gone in a week. Can they do anything about it?

I did a back of envelope calculation on the situation for Labour in polls after 14 months in Government since 1945 using Gallup and then Yougov data.
The 14 points lost since July 24 is unprecedented the closest was 8 points 14 months after 66 GE. The largest recovery was from 64-66 at 5%.

Sad news, but will be playing this in his honour. I always think of his song ‘Bright college days’ at each graduation day I attend.

What happened with the prime minister of the UK, Keir Starmer, provides a stark case study for the limits—both practical and moral—of giving ground.

@polphilpod.bsky.social on not letting "moderation" turn into embracing the values of the far right:
When Moderation Becomes Appeasement
If your chief goal is to find a middle ground with the far right on social issues, you’ll end up condoning its values—just ask Keir Starmer.

Political rhetoric has a very consistent character. Here is PM Ramsay MacDonald emphasising the limitations of action but the consequences of what he called ‘unproductive debt’ in 1935.
Could still used today.
