Some of my favorite quotes speak to the paradoxes inherent in psychotherapy:

If the analyst cannot be experienced as a new object, analysis never gets under way; if he cannot be experienced as an old one, it never ends.

Contemporary psychoanalysis can be summed up in a single sentence: We treat ourselves as we were treated, and the only way to really learn to treat ourselves differently is to be treated differently. There’s nothing magical or unscientific about this.

There is nothing wrong with being a Freudian, a relationalist, an interpersonalist, a self psychologist, or whatever, as long as one does not succumb to the delusion that their school has a monopoly on truth and there is nothing to be learned from other approaches.

30 years on, I honour the Bosniak boys and men who were victims of the Srebrenica genocide.

I also honour the mothers who carry the weight of that loss for decades.

We must remember and preserve the truth, so that future generations know exactly what happened in Srebrenica.
