Called contracting co. HR about insurance plans.
“If I enroll in one of these plans, can I cancel before Jan. 1?”
“The enrollment period is until Nov. 30.”
“I understand that, but if I enroll can I still cancel up until it becomes active on Jan. 1?”
“The enrollment period is until Nov. 30.”

“Awe” is a feeling of reverential respect mixed with wonder and fear, like when you see the aurora or a spectacular sunset.
“Aw” is an exclamation, used when looking at kittens or empathizing with a toddler’s boo-boo.

These are not the same.

@digby56.bsky.social I remember reading an article during primary season in 1984 (I think in Time) that compared Mondale’s campaign to “a glass locomotive”. Of course we all know what happened that fall. (I knew he was cooked when in his nomination acceptance speech he promised to *raise* taxes.)
“Like the president himself, the Trump train, which looked like high-speed rail during the first few months of his second term, is slowing down. And it’s a much more rickety machine than it first appeared.”
The Trump train — and its conductor — are losing steam
Americans are growing weary of the president's cruel policies and stagnant economy

My hope is that this horrible period marks the high-water mark of power for this twisted, bigoted, demented minority. The damage done during this 2nd Trump administration will take decades to fix, but hopefully we’ll survive it.

@erinbiba.bsky.social I know we disagree on this very important issue, and that’s okay. Intelligent people of goodwill can differ and still get along.

Blueberry pie is fine and I like it, but apple pie I make with my own hands is the best *for me*. And boy is my stomach happy right now.

Careful testing indicates I can just about peel two apples in the amount of time it takes to run one classic Bugs Bunny cartoon. The laughing does slow me down, tho. Cc @paulnaas.bsky.social

I’ve been watching these since I was maybe 6 years old and the *still* crack me up.

As a rule I don’t like to block willy-nilly. Usually I look at someone’s feed to see if their irksome comment was a one-off, or part of a pattern.

If someone insults me *and* they have a pattern of such, it’s block time. (Copelovich is a professor.) Or insult me multiple times. Not here for abuse.

@erinbiba.bsky.social Rewatched the Hawkeye tv series this week and finally noticed the very subtle signs that Kate & family are Jewish. No tree in their penthouse but you can see a Hanukkiah. No “Merry Christmas!” between Kate & mom. Aunt’s house has a mezuzah (which pleased me inordinately).

I’ve said this before: Unless a member of the Trump Administration presents supporting evidence, any claim they make should be considered a lie. There is zero reason to grant these fabricators the benefit of the doubt.
Over and over, the mainstream press reports that Trump has secured a “trade deal” with a foreign country and every single time he’s just making it up.

When will they learn?

He’s targeting brown people. It’s blatant racism, aided and abetted by 6 men on the Supreme Court.

I don’t like this epithet, but in this case: Clarence Thomas is the biggest Uncle Tom I’ve ever seen.
This is the scandal. Trump isn’t targeting dangerous people. He’s targeting peaceful immigrants. Almost exclusively.

Any time people talk about how terrible film casting choices are for an adapted work I just remember how many people thought Michael Keaton was an awful choice for Batman.

So okay: I’m not a big fan of Pixar and Disney doing sequels. Yes, Toy Atory 1-3 is tremendous, but often you get Cars 2.

That said, I’m genuinely looking forward to Zootopia 2. I loved the world building and both Judy and Nick, and am glad to see more of it.

I’ve been saying this since Trump started using the military as domestic stormtroopers. I’m actually surprised a naval commander hasn’t questioned orders or even resigned over these Venezuela boat murders. I’ve been half expecting a Seven Days in May scenario for months.

Watching Hawkeye, and when they go to Kate Bishop’s aunt’s house, there’s a mezuzah on the door. And showing it was clearly no coincidence; the camera angle was low enough and the frame wide enough to juuuuust show it. Nice touch.

Actually, these days I don’t care about film franchises at all. TV series (serieses), I do care about. Watching Pluribus, Leverage Redemption, Star Trek: SNW, Severance, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Probably a few others I’m forgetting. Angry they cancelled Lower Decks.
anyway the only film franchise i actually care about these days is THE PLANET OF THE APES (which i did write a column about)

1. I tried to make a joke about Hopper & Red Guardian being in Russian prison at the same time but came up empty.
2. I tapped out after Season 2. They all went to the dance. Seemed a good end point. Did a similar thing with Buffy when they graduated high school.
As the final “Stranger Things” episodes arrive this holiday season, the mix of aging fans and de-aged actors is a reminder that no show outruns the clock.
We outgrew "Stranger Things" years ago
With the cast no longer fitting their child-sized roles, it's past time we all moved on from Hawkins, Indiana.
