A nice article about our friends Elisa and Vivian Girard, who are wrapping up a naturally affordable 14-unit building outside Fields Corner.

Dorchester couple renting micro units for $750/month
Back in 2018, when the city launched a micro-unit pilot project, some saw the potential for sub-400 square-foot studio apartments as a solution to the city’s growing affordability crisis.

A great project is being proposed in Fields Corner, celebrating Dorchester’s history and making room for more neighbors.

The Roslindale Squares + Streets zoning was thoughtfully done and is a great outcome. We’ll be there making sure there are similar great outcomes in Codman Square and Fields Corner. Check our Pinned Post to join the DotGrow mailing list if you’d like to be involved.

Our statewide partner @abundanthousingma.org commissioned this poll that adds further empirical support to what we’ve long suspected: the loudest voices against housing production are the definition of a vocal minority. Let’s get building! www.bostonglobe.com/2025/05/16/b...
Most Mass. voters want more housing, poll finds - The Boston Globe
A new poll from a pro-housing group found the majority of the state’s voters even favor new housing development over other considerations, like preserving the character of neighborhoods.

"Nowhere in the country have rents declined as much as they have in Austin — now 22% off the peak reached in August 2023, according to Redfin. The median asking rent is $1,399 per month, down $400 in less than three years"

The Texas capital has become the poster child for advocates who say the only way out of the U.S. housing crisis is building more homes.

This was a comprehensive reform that also simplified our zoning.

By that I mean no step backs, no dwelling unit per lot area, no FAR, no special permits (under 75k sqft), no parking mins…

While other reforms have limited it to 4-8 units, we’re really trying to build housing!

Rather than go smaller, we decided to go bigger in a way that would result in thousands of both market rate units and affordable units.

Our high affordability requirements only penciled at 6 stories and that was our baseline.

Cambridge leading the way! Six stories as of right throughout every neighborhood!!! (More to come for TOD corridors soon!) Boston should follow this example as soon as possible! 👏👏👏

I can’t believe it - after years of advocacy, exclusionary zoning has ended in Cambridge.

We just passed the single most comprehensive rezoning in the US—legalizing multifamily housing up to 6 stories citywide in a Paris style

Here’s the details 🧵
