High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is an incision-less surgical procedure used to treat essential tremor by lesioning the brain pathway involved with tremor generation. @ucsfhealth.bsky.social neurosurgeon @doriswang.bsky.social explains that this leads to lasting tremor reduction.

Can we reboot walking after Parkinson's disease DBS?
Can AI teach deep brain stimulation devices to help people 'walk the walk?' A new study by Wang says MAYBE. Using personalized data-driven models, they optimized DBS for walking.

Very excited to share our newest publication on identifying neurophysiological signatures of improved gait using bidirectional DBS devices!
New in npj Parkinson's Disease, @doriswang.bsky.social's lab presents an AI approach for identifying personalized deep brain stimulation (DBS) settings to improve walking. The findings lay the groundwork for adaptive DBS systems that adjust in real-time: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

To the stranger who paid for our lunch at Kona airport because I didn’t have a credit card on me (getting too used to tap to pay), thank you from the bottom of my heart and my toddlers’ growling stomachs. I will always remember your kindness and pay it forward! #humanity #payitforward #kindness

Excited to share our new preprint. We recorded field potentials from the motor/premotor cortices and pallidum of people with Parkinson’s disease as they performed a gait initiation task to understand the cortico-pallidal network dynamics that underlie this action: www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1...
Pallidal and motor cortical interactions determine gait initiation dynamics in Parkinson's disease
Gait initiation is a fundamental human task, requiring one or more anticipatory postural adjustments (APA) prior to stepping. Deviations in amplitude and timing of APAs exist in Parkinson's disease (P...
