If there was ever a gravestone appropriate to the industrial revolution this one from Batley Cemetery fit the bill perfectly. It is worth expanding the photograph to read the words. Image "My flanges all refuse to slide" Tim Green CC BY 2.0

Trannies: do they deserve hate crimes and violence done to them?

We asked a panel of cis people with various degrees of scorn for the degenerates to debate this issue
It was always gonna end up devolving into “the transgender issue” being is it okay to assault trannies and do they deserve basic safety innit
To reiterate;

This is how the Guardian describes a tweet that advocates assaulting trans women;

“Posts on transgender issues”

Deliberately misgenderng children is abuse. Abuse causes a 64% likelihood of poor mental health into adulthood. If schools, parents & the Streeting/Starmer conversion therapy centres for trans kids do it they are deliberately harming children, harm that will continue throughout their lives.

Verbally abused children more likely to have poor mental health as adults, study finds
Analysis suggests long-term damage to wellbeing can be worse than for children experiencing physical abuse

I have been saying this for years. The qualitative evidence has long pointed towards trans women and AMAB non-binary people coming out later in life - on average - than other trans people.

Every bit of moral panic about trans boys coming out young also betrays a deep transmisogyny.
3 Aug 25 - New study shows vast "over-representation of trans boys" turns out to be vast _under-representation_ of trans girls bec. they: a) come out ~10 years later; b) start puberty later; & c) delay transitioning longer because of deep social animus towards AMAB femininity.

35. Historical research can be triggering/traumatic (including looking at material in the archives) but there is not enough discussion about this or how researchers can deal with this aspect of the work

One thing that's striking about Ozzy Osborne's death is how difficult it is to imagine the music industry producing another figure like him. The barriers to working class people are so great, and there's a related attitude to culture that is neutered as a result.

One of my favourite surprises from #IMC2025 was picking up these fantastic medieval animal themed #D&D modules from the fabulous Anachronalia (who I don't think is here). I look forward to spreading the joy of medieval nonsense to some Edinburgh rpgers soon.

I just got a job (yay! Woo!) and in the acceptance phonecall my new manager asked me if I was 'ok with the salary' having previously said 'i guess you'll want to talk about the salary'. Was I supposed to haggle? Is that a thing?

Woken up completely exhausted from #IMC2025. Time for some engineering disaster podcasts and sugary tea.

If you take heroin your GP will help you with blood tests. But if you follow international healthcare protocols and take eg puberty blockers NHS England has told your GP not to help you monitor hormone levels with blood tests. Gender affirming care is, apparently, worse than heroin.

Well, that went very well! My thanks for a lovely session and some fascinating papers and questions to @medica.bsky.social and the audience. So many brilliant overlaps between papers to explore
Preparing my slides for #IMC2025, where I'm presenting on wounding and healing medieval warhorses for @medica.bsky.social panel #S1214. Want to know how to stitch up a horse after a medieval battle? Of course you do.
