I've written sporadically on the internet before on and off throughout the years, but I'm very happy to debut my new piece via @polygon.com in which I dive into the brief cinematic history of the Black Vampire. If you liked SINNERs, then this is for you.

Kind of embarrassing how few Eastwood directed movies I've watched, but JUROR #2 has got me convinced I need to see more. Between this and Nosferatu, I'm also all in on Nicholas Hoult in starring roles. He's got that quiet, reliable juice.

Give me a single image from a film that immediately makes you hear the song from the soundtrack playing in your head.

Revisiting Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing. Delightful stuff. Denzel's charisma is off the charts, Keanu in sneering Power Rangers villain mode, Branagh and Thompson making Shakespeare seem so natural. Great palate cleanser from the run of South Korean dark thrillers I've been on.

FW: The Lion in Winter (1968)

A movie engineered for Hepburn and O'Toole to chew the scenery up and spit it out. It's Succession set in Medieval England; intense family relationships, a struggle to succeed the throne, and a black, farcical tone that doesn't shy away from the absurdity of it all.

First watch. Hitchcock in pure "just two hotties who want to bone" mode. The cat burglar plot takes a backseat to Grant and Kelly standing around in Europe and burning a hole through the screen with their charisma. Pure, breezy fun.

Same ppl probably went home to post about how the cinema is their church.
Critic screenings I’m attending keep ending in trash all over the floor and seats.

I’m going to make it my presidential platform that if you’re invited to a free screening with free concessions as a critic and you do this, a teenage usher gets to beat the shit out of you.

Iconic for a reason. Not sure why everyone seems to think Crowe's performance is weak, I think a lot of the non-verbal acting he's doing is pretty fantastic. Reed is clearly the standout though, holy hell. Ridley remains the GOAT.

Leo (2023) dir. Lokesh Kanagaraj

I thought this was pretty fun! The fights in the first half are fantastic. Feel like it loses momentum in the second half but Vijay and Sanjay Dutt manage to hold it together with their charisma.
