"We need a new understanding. One that asks not just what’s “legal,” but what’s just. One that recognizes that feeding bots on borrowed books without consent or compensation is not innovation—it’s appropriation with better branding."

The Courts Just Made Our Libraries Sitting Ducks For AI Plundering
The law may call it fair use. But in the age of AI, it’s starting to look like a free lunch. A California federal judge ruled this week that Meta Platforms Inc. did not violate copyright law when i…

If you're an architect or an architecture firm tasked with designing or redesigning a library, PLEASE TAKE LIBRARY WORKERS INTO CONSIDERATION. Far too many times I've seen libraries with diminished staff spaces, layouts that don't take safety into account, and make things inaccessible.

when RFK says he wants to “end chronic disease,” what people hear is “he wants to cure us” but what he means is “i want to cull the weak”
Republicans are waging a generalized war on science, but I think many of them don’t fully grok that RFK isn’t at war with science alone or per se: he’s at war with sick people, and of the view that only the lucky should be allowed to survive into old age. They are know nothings, he is Mengele.
RFK Jr. has now officially stated that he will dismantle the United States Preventive ServicesTask Force (USPSTF).

This is an independent body of expert scientists who volunteer their time to review data and provide guidance to Americans on important things like cancer screenings.

If the boat is delayed going from Manhattan > SI, the buses leaving from the terminal don’t wait. So for the love of god get off the boat.
When you delay getting off the boat or block entrances to the terminal/subway, you are delaying New Yorkers from getting to work or home. We appreciate you using it to see the Statue, but please keep in mind thousands of people use it everyday.

Had the distinct pleasure of shouting “MOVE” to a tourist blocking a clear path to the Staten Island ferry tonight. If you’re visit NYC, and decide to take the SI Ferry, please keep in mind it’s a transportation lifeline for thousands of New Yorkers.

Horror as a literary genre is cool! What do you mean I get to ready a book where there’s a line that says “help the bugs are up my ass!”

Parents underestimate how determined kids can be to information that is deemed inappropriate to them. I say this as someone who would look up “girls kissing” on school computers in the early 2000’s.
