Probably should introduce ourselves over here!

Known as "Beck" and I'm a amateur naval historian currently trying my hand at a master degree (part time).

My area of interest is Naval Signalling and it's used/development around the early 1800.

I also want to build a replica seventy four 😂
Finally managed to crash my way though a few chapters of this book this morning.

Set myself a 20 minute timer and just read till it went off.

I will train myself to get reading!

Afternoon Shipmates,

I haven't been a very good Naval Historian these past few months.

Relearning to try and manage my depression without the medication so that's been fun!

Here's to a slightly more consistent 2026 for Naval History.

🚢Reviving Trafalgar’s Message
I’m fundraising to donate a new set of 1805 signal flags—including the iconic “ENGLAND EXPECTS”—to HMS Victory as she undergoes her Great Repair. Let’s honour Nelson’s legacy together.

Trafalgar Signal 1805
I’m raising funds to create and donate a complete set of 32 signal flags, accurate to the year 1805, for use aboard HMS Victory.

From chatting with Victory's First Lieutenant I've had the beginning of an interesting idea!

Overview:- Crowdfunding for a full set of Trafalgar Signal Flags and donating them to the ship. The current ones are reportable a little worse for wear and are "cobbled" together.

⚓ Yesterday, I finally met HMS Victory’s First Lieutenant in person after many emails. It felt surreal to come aboard and request the First Lieutenant on a first-rate ship of the line. We had a great chat about flags, hoists, and the ongoing work aboard Victory.

Amazing day today — and even managed to add a few autographs to my collection of naval literature! ⚓️📚

Also came away with a new direction to explore French naval signals! 🇫🇷📖

A week of reflection — I’ve decided to withdraw from my MA in Naval History. Confidence and time just aren’t where they need to be right now.

Naval history’s still my passion, I just want to enjoy it again without the pressure. ⚓️

Had a few knocks back recently.

I tried my hardest but it wasn't enough as I unfortunately don't interview particularly well.

I'm heading down to the coast to spend a few days at Sea!

Time to post down to Southampton and treat myself to inside tickets.
