I keep seeing folks understandably point out that there are Democratic lawmakers who are scared to speak out for fear of retribution. I'm sympathetic to that. But also: no reasonable adult would begrudge a lawmaker for giving up their seat for someone who's willing to speak up. That's their job.

I really hope Democratic lawmakers took notice of the actions of Sen. Schatz, Sen. Kim, and others today and observed how quickly they were celebrated by millions of voters.
This is not about getting the response 100% right or knowing exactly what the plan should be.

Those of us in California and NY have long noted that our Fed tax dollars subsidize many red states. With all these programs shut down, I’m not sure we’re going to feel the pinch as much as they are.
