This kind of sucks, because if we could treat "system doesn't matter" like a normal sentence, then we would understand that it's not an absolute statement, but an assertion that the amount system matters is lower than some critical threshold.

Had a really solid cliffhanger ending; I narrated a deadly cloudkill spell rising from the snow and slowly unfurling towards the party, then ended the session.
The cool cliffhanger was *immediately* undercut by the Bard player saying, "Don't worry, guys, I'll cast 'Control Winds' next sesh."

You know, it's quite charitable that my players assume the unhealthy hours I put into worldbuilding is for their benefit, and not because I'm a deeply deranged individual.
They're wrong, of course. But it's such a kind assumption that I will never correct them.

The trick to a dark fantasy campaign isn't to make everything as edgelord as possible, but rather to paint your world with a lot of greys. Make the good guys bastards. Give the bad guys noble, redeeming qualities. Very rarely should the right thing to do be obvious to your players.

They don't have capacity to terrorize more than 2-3 cities at a time.
Which means they rotate teams to new cities without relief.
Which means consistent resistance by fresh activists in each new city will break them over time.
Which means if you're city's not occupied, rest up and get ready.

as a journalist i'm interested in every single side of a story and that means conservatives and liberals etc. but there's been, imo, a course correction where in order to try to avoid seeming "left leaning" you over-populate stories with right leaning sources. we should just do good journalism.

I have now run TWO RPG sessions in which a player with no history of seizures has suddenly had a massive seizure. Both players ended up being okay, thankfully, but the question remains:
Does that make me a really BAD DM, or a really GOOD DM? 🤔

Session 150 of Traversing the Doors was last night! The members of Phoenix Phyre encountered a group of mind flayers transporting a large collection of slaves, and they decided that just couldn't be allowed. It was a hard-fought battle, but they all survived and managed to save the captives!

Yesterday we did the Secret Santa session for Building a Nation, and it was an unmitigated success! All of the players had clearly put SO much thought into their gifts, and it really showed. Here's hoping the next two Secret Santa sessions go as well as that one did!
