Historically, a government's 'reach' was equivalent to roughly 2 week's travel; beyond that, messages simply took too long to travel for a king or emperor to retain control long-term. They didn't have teleportation magic, though, so your mileage may vary.

A lot of historical cities would tax anyone entering the walls; parties would have to pay higher fees if they were bringing in goods. They were turned away if they couldn't pay. Some would also tax those trying to LEAVE the city as well!

I love the act of making a good table and being able to use it to inject a little bit of authentic randomness in my campaign. But randomness is not inherently authentic! Only roll on your tables if it truly DOES NOT MATTER what the outcome is. Otherwise, just make the call.

This week, the Sea Team had to navigate a twisted miniature golf course while fighting off a horde of zombies. I THOUGHT I'd balanced the golf mechanics well enough, but they finished with 11 strokes on a par 23 course, so...oops! The players had a blast, though, and that's what matters!

Hope everyone had a fun Halloween! We watched A Nightmare on Elm Street (the original) with a friend who'd never seen it. The disbelief on his face when we got to the blood geyser scene was absolutely worth the price of admission!
