"An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind". My interpretation of Ghandi, though no one seems to be sure he said it.
But when thinking about collective reactions to violence, it's worth remembering (no matter how you might feel abt the deaths of uniformed combatants on any side) that families mourn the death of their children, & those deaths become justification for another war. Everywhere, among all peoples.
