This case is indeed way bigger than Antwerp.

It is a test of whether Europe will apply its own climate laws to stop the fossil-to-plastic buildout — and choose a just transition instead of locking in decades of fossil fuel dependence.

Europe does not need more plastics‼️

A transatlantic movement is rising: the lawsuit comes just after community members from U.S. fracking hotspots and petrochemical hubs visited Antwerp — joining forces with locals to highlight the global costs of petrochemical expansion. 🌍✊

🗣️ Community members are speaking out 🗣️

The burden of INEOS’ Project One's is invisible in its environmental impact assessment.

But it cannot be invisible in court.

This case, filed by @clientearth.bsky.social and partners, is precisely what accountability is for: To bring the entire chain of impact into view before we get locked into decades of harm from new fossil infrastructure.

The landmark case will weigh full-lifecycle emissions: For the 1st time, a court will weigh Scope 3 emissions for plastics — the full climate footprint from fracked feedstocks to waste incineration.

⚖️ The law requires the whole system to be seen, not just what fits inside the fence line.

The problem: INEOS drastically understated the climate + health impacts of the project. New independent research shows Project One would bring:
🏭 3.8M tons of CO₂e/yr
🫁 More early deaths from pollution than the jobs it will bring.

Lawyers challenge €4bn Project One development, saying emissions and health impacts vastly underestimated

🚨NEW plastics lawsuit just landed, targeting INEOS’s Project One in Antwerp.

Why? This €4bn #Plastics project would cause 5x more emissions than INOES claimed — and drive serious health harms. This is #PlasticAccountability!

This #GlobalFertilizerDay, let’s call it clearly: fertilizers are #fossilfuels in disguise.

This means when gas prices rise, food prices rise too —fertilizer companies profit while farmers and families pay.

⚠️ Big Ag has a dirty secret. More than half of fertilizers are made from fossil fuels. Industry claims we need fertilizers to feed the world — but we can feed the world without fossil fuels.
