Financial administrator. Fan of Yankees, Penn State, Celtics. Proud grandfather. Believer in constitutional democracy.
A memorable statement that will echo for years to come.
Breaking: An Epstein survivor just silenced press conference attendees when she delivered the following remarks:

“Today we stand in a moment that will decide whether our government belongs to the American people, or to those who prey on them.”

The leaked Young Republicans’ group chats— filled with endorsements of rape and praise for Hitler—have brought condemnation from some Republicans. J. D. Vance had a different, and more telling, response, Jonathan Chait argues:

How a trove of bigoted and violent texts among young Republicans indicates the future of the party.

Great common sense analysis from @ianbremmer.com, as usual.
musk's netflix uproar over shows hints at deeper ai concerns. if media affects kids, what about ai bots? china sees risks, the us doesn’t. it's time to discuss.

Well, better late to the party than not at all!
Since I have defended and supported the WaPo in the months since the election and the infamous pulled endorsement, I feel obliged to say: this is very, very bad. A dear friend at a Post vet says it's the worst thing to happen to the Post in its long history, and I can't argue.

If other teams don't like the fact that the play is nearly unstoppable, why don't they just adopt it for themselves rather than bellyache about it?

A wholly unnecessary tragedy.
Breaking: The first measles death has been reported in a growing outbreak in West Texas. The victim was a school-aged child who was unvaccinated and had been hospitalized in Lubbock, said a city spokesperson. This is the first US measles death since 2015.

So very well said, @gtconway.bsky.social! Where is his concern for the history and norms of our constitutional democracy?
I shared this note with the owner of the Washington Post this morning.

Just another log on the insanity fire...
This is insane. If you wonder why some of us think the rule of law is about to fall, it's this.

The U.S. Attorney for DC is not "President Trump's lawyer" and its job is not to "protect his leadership" nor prosecute people who "refuse to put America first".

Disgusting sellout.
The U.S. president has now chosen to throw America to Putin’s side and is more than willing to see this war end on Russian terms.

Does it fall more on the side of absurdity or insanity? Or perhaps both?
Consider the precedent here - the U.S. demanding fully half a country’s resources as payback for aiding its defense:

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said the United States was demanding that Kyiv “give away” 50% of Ukraine’s rare minerals while offering no security guarantees.

Couldn't agree more. He would be laughable if the nonsense he spews weren't so destructive.
CNN should end the contract of Scott Jennings. Let him go to Newsmax or OAN where he belongs.

This isn't about a difference of opinion or policy, which is perfectly fine and welcomed.

This is support of authoritarianism. Plain and simple. Might as well salute.

So very true. We take incredible access to music of all sorts as a given and a right, but it hasn't always been that way.
I think something we don't appreciate enough as a society is that for the majority of human history hearing a particular piece of music was only possible if you could find someone in a public place/event playing it, owned an instrument/knew it yourself, or were rich and could employ a musician.
