Here a new point of view on the response of the global ocean to climate change.

In short: we cannot separate temperature from the rest when we look at trends in the dynamics.

It is just a starting point. With the great Bruno Buongiorno Nardelli.

The oceanic physical injection pimp of organic carbon.

New paper, done with some good old friends.

Note the proposition of a horizon surtace for the carbon export that combines mixing with light penetration.
Our data-driven analysis quantifies the organic carbon export driven by upper-ocean mixing and 3D advection. Vertical diffusion and intertwined biological production and mixing dominate net export. Interannual-variability is linked to water-mass formation dynamics.

Amazing animation of tankers burning oil to move oil
🗺️ I've spent a lot of time the past week looking at data in the Strait of Hormuz so here is a quick animation showcasing the sheer volume of activity in the Persian Gulf last Friday. The data highlights "Tanker" only vessels (AIS code 80-89) so everything from Crude Oil Tankers to LNG Tankers.

This is phenomenal.

Sea surface temperatures are >5C above average to the west of the UK and around Iceland. It's the strongest area of anomalous warmth on the planet at the moment.

It's the warmest in recorded history for northwest Europe.

NYU has been up there with Columbia for complicity. Just appalling stuff.
A principled student said in a grad speech that the “only appropriate thing to say in this moment” is to acknowledge the “atrocities” currently being committed in Palestine.

In response, NYU is withholding their diploma + apologizing to the community for the trauma the audience was “subjected to.”
