To commemorate Animal Kingdom’s Birthday, I’m going to repost my very silly Twitter thread reading the also very silly (& somehow officially licensed ???) Countdown to Extinction book — all 42 pages of it.

Still wish this had been a Disney+ series
While The Dino Institute bought much of the area property, a holdout remained. Chester and Hester staunchly refused to sell their service station.

They knew there was gold in them thar bones, and once fossil fever took Diggs County, they pivoted from selling gas to locals to trinkets for tourists.

Had a busy day yesterday and wasn’t able to resume Dinoland-posting. I’ll need to double-posts sometime, but for now, here’s today’s!

Only a little under 8 days left until Dinosaur’s extinction ahhhhh

We’ve entered the single numbers: only 9 days until the last of Dinoland closes.

Among the closing is Restaurantosaurus. I imagine many are familiar with its layers of history, but if not, follow along for a deep dive!

Today, we’ll look at the structure’s history and where it came from.

With 10 days left until Dinosaur’s closure, I want to walk through an extremely low-stakes mystery.

Last year, I came across this goofy-butt hat, listed as being a “sea serpent.” Cheap, foam-alicious, and sooooo ugly (affectionate), it certainly feels like Dinoland, but I couldn’t confirm (1/5) 🧵

Did you know you could reserve whole swaths of Dinoland, USA for corporate events, private parties, and yes, even wedding receptions?

That’s right, you could have held your post-nuptial fête at what some call the most romantic place on earth: Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama.

Only 11 days left!

When I say I have no frame of reference for this amount of snowfall.

I’ve experienced a snowfall of 8” once in my life. These totals are incomprehensible to me.

Twelve days are left until Dinosaur’s closure, so let’s look at a different beloved Disney original that’s already left this world: FastPass!

The Dinosaur FastPass kiosks are less themed than some, featuring a simple, utilitarian design.

Today marks the two week mark until Dinoland’s closure, so let’s take a rare look inside a secret space few guests have ever visited:

With 14 days until Dinosaur’s closure, we’re keeping it light by looking at hats currently available (& reasonably priced) on eBay. Sadly for us melon-heads, they’re youth-sized.

Here we have a knit toboggan (the first artist to draft this pattern could make a killing)+ a unique toothy ballcap

You’ve probably noticed that Coca-Cola flows through the theming of Dinoland like that of other lands at DAK.

What you may not know is that, once upon a time, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures had classic Coke dispensers, retrofitted to accept dollar bills.

Only 15 days left to enjoy Dinoland!

With 16 days left on the Countdown to Extinction, let’s look at the Dinoland DVC kiosk.

While a bit of a blight on the landscape (and wallet), DVC kiosks are reliably on-theme, and the one in Diggs County is no different. Themed as a travel agency, it advertised dig sites for fictional goofy dinos

Today is the last day the EPCOT40 show will play until the next break in festivals.

To see guests entering the park and raising their hands like the Illuminations globe pyro bursts in sync to the music is proof of the undying legacy of Illuminations: Reflections of Earth. 😭❤️

With 17 days left, today’s Dinoland-posting consists of lighter fare:

I love the old “is that you?” series of shirts from Animal Kingdom’s past. Dinoland was represented with Mickey questioning whether Donald left a (not web-footed) T. Rex-sized footprint.

Have you ever wanted to experience the joy of visiting an old, dark, stuffy Florida gas station in the middle of summer 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 A/C?

Well if you visited Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures when it first opened, you could! Join me for an unnecessarily detailed trip through HVAC prehistory 🧵
@dinolanddan.bsky.social Hey I finally found proof that Chester and Hester's used to be open-air. This photo was taken during cast previews. Not sure when they enclosed it.

Mystery solved ‼️

Do you recognize this doofy speckled dino guy? He was featured on all sorts of signage across Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama and served as the unofficial mascot of the mini-land. Which is kind of a big deal of such a random, nameless character…🧵(1/4)
