I sure didn’t expect anyone to find the timeline of HVAC installation at Chester & Hester’s to be of interest to anyone but myself, so I’m glad you found it enjoyable too

I will say, a lack of refrigerated air would be so thematically accurate to a midcentury Floridian service station

Update: I think they had units for CMs at registers, but not full central air for guests until pretty recently (~2012)

Still digging, but this was what first told me they did some rejiggering or expansion. Note the duct above the door.

First image is from Jan, 2008, second from Nov, 2024. I can’t believe they first installed A/C in 2008, but this makes me think they did…something in that vein over the years.

I think that’s exactly the case:

1. Nov, 2024: Yellow arrow shows HVAC duct installed ~2012/2013
2. Nov, 2024: Red arrow shows ceiling unit near checkout counter
3. Sep, 2010: Yellow arrow shows absent HVAC duct, while red arrow shows thermostat (presumably) to original ceiling unit

Since the sign literally says there’s A/C (though there are a TON of fans throughout and the early days had all walls lowered), I think there was some, but I’m pretty sure they did some additional installation. I’ll dig through some photos to compare.

1. I honestly have no idea how to find that out, but I’d love to!

2. I think it had some form of A/C, but I don’t think it was sufficient or had to be reconfigure — I’m going to dig up some comparison photos of some changes that were made in that area

Chester and Hester got evicted and became campaign graphic designers, good for them

Well this, like all your work, is exceptional

This remains one of the sweetest, most creative tributes to departed rides I’ve ever seen. Would love to learn more about how the concept came about!

Can’t believe it’s taken this long for the Hummel for nerds bubble to pop

Haha, well, posts are more likely to go outside your typical circle on Twitter than here.

Knowing there’s a backup, I can’t fault anyone for feeling tempted…

I specifically elected *not* to share this detail when I was still on Twitter last year

Mullet-era Keith songs are so sensitive and wistful that I had more than one emotion when he died.

The other songs are fun n’ dumb (affectionate) and I can’t evaluate them fairly due to the drug of nostalgia, but I do want to call out Fancy as being top-shelf Country.
