Dire wolves were not close relatives of gray wolves. They last shared a common ancestor more than 5 million years ago. What Colossal has done is make something new and slapped a dire wolf sticker on it, as if an organism equals a hypothetical genome.

This cover unfortunately reflects the orientalist bias numerous Western observers have against Turkey. If anything, the widespread protests of last week have shown that as much as the government might want to end Turkish democracy, people of Turkey are not willing to give up that easily.+

My MSc paper is getting lots of hits for the job I did tbh. Don't get me wrong, I think we did a great job, but I think its cited mostly b/c it covers a usually neglected area (Black Sea region, Caucasus, northern Iran). Another reminder that we need to expand the science out of global "northwest".
