I hate this phrase so much. It is never used in an altruistic way. It is always used to reinforce a heirarchy:

I hate that it is basically standard for badged doors to go green as soon as authentication is verified, but at the same time send the unlock signal.

There is a capital class that owns everything, and an underclass that must rent everything. With the only thing ypu can rent being your own body.
Rent should be illegal. Ownership must be tied to use. Workers must own their own work. Renters must own their housing and utilities.
