On paper, I have a cat and my roommate has a cat. IRL, my roommate and I are shared property of two cats. Anyway, her cat just tried to convince me I was supposed to come to bed with them. She was very adamant that was what needed to happen. I told her no and came back to my couch. She followed.

One thing I struggle to understand is how I can forget how to do things, creatively. I have always been a slam poet. Snappy beats, slant rhyme, uncomfortable topics. But lately, I just can't make the words word, no matter how hard I try.

I have three young cousins—14, 12, and 9—and I am always trying to remember what I loved to read at their ages.
9 was Baby Sitters Club, 12 was Fear Street, 14 was getting into adult books, King, Koontz and the like. 12yo's parents wouldn't care; not sure about the parents of the other two.

It's the national year of reading in the uk in 2026. Instead of asking "why don't kids read any more", ask "how can I help them find the stories (and non fic) they will fall in love with". Less "get off my lawn whippersnappers" and more "come, sit on the lawn, here's a comic".
