From a former RA: If you suspect any of your residents are potential trans students, no you don't.

Your job is ensuring a safe residential experience. Fucking act like it.
This was just done at the University of Cincinnati. The administration are also requiring RAs to inform on any potential trans students to assign them to separate dorms.

This is what we lost my dad to. Good news about research. Infuriating that the administration wants to shut down cancer research.

As a former scientist, I can confirm this. People make big sacrifices to be researchers — years of school and very low pay. You are usually poor for at least a decade.

Also, most science can't be done without expensive equipment. You can't just set up a cancer research lab in your spare bedroom.
I'm seeing a lot of support for fired scientists and environmental professionals, which is great

But a lot is phased is "just keep doing your important work," and I need you to know that these are early career people with student loans and no savings, and they need income for food and shelter.

A lot of chronic illness is post viral. People are healthy until they get flu, mono, covid etc

It only takes one infection to upend your life & leave you with severe disabilities

RFK Jr says he wants to end chronic illness epidemic & yet will make avoiding viruses harder

Get boosted. Wear a mask.

Orwellian indeed. And I know it’s just another symptom of *flailing hands* all this.
CDC Orders Retraction of Research So Papers Can Be Reviewed for “Transgender” and Other “Forbidden Terms”
The sweeping order came from the CDC’s chief science officer last week.

Just days after Trump returned to the White House, Instagram is censoring abortion content. This is what Aid Access' account looks like right now - posts about how to get abortion medication has been blurred out.

I saw this on TikTok but I had to go see it for myself.

The White House website, translated into Spanish—gone. And they’ve replaced the Home button with the words “Go Home.”

I should start using BlueSky more. George agrees. Right now the world is just so overwhelming. It’s hard to feel connected to things.

Write that book. Send that story. Query that agent. Ask for that blurb. Maybe it doesn’t work out, but there’s a chance it will, and that chance—however small you think it is—is all you need.

If you don't know this poet, you should. He died too early and I have carried this poem with me since his death in 2001. I believe everyone should know it... those last 2 lines.

fascism is stopped when enough people say one of two things:
1) "nah, I'm not doing that"
2) "nah, you're not doing that"

a lot of people want to imagine how they'll say the second thing, but you should *really* start practicing the first one

Fun fact: If someone quotes a post of yours in a way that is unwelcome (as is commonplace on Twitter/X) there is a tool to combat the unwanted attention. Simply click the three dot menu on the quote post & click "Detach quote". This removes your post from their quote post. Useful to know, do share!
