After putting it down almost 18 years ago, I recently started playing bass again and it feels so much more fun than it ever did.

I rode on this bike lane a few weeks ago and it's great. It's wide, calm, and safe. Plus, it was built in no time. Every American "bike mayor" needs to skip Paris & come to Nantes. What we're getting here is achievable over there.

Seeing news of the historic flooding in S King County, in areas where I grew up, and I'm hoping everyone is doing ok. Hoping WA, OR, and BC can work together on a recovery plan & a way to avoid this huge climate catastrophe in the future. Stay safe, friends.

Anyone wondering if there's good in this world only needs to read the sentence below to have some hope. Perhaps the simultaneously most destructive & least effective Council President in modern Seattle history voted out after one term
Sara Nelson has officially adjourned her final meeting both as a Councilmember and as President of the Seattle City Council.

Part of the brilliance of football & the World Cup is that we get to share cultures w/ one another. Pride in Seattle is an expression of its culture. It is not political. Pride is part of the fabric of the city & is as much a part of who we are as anything else. Welcome to international competition.
Seattle will move forward with its World Cup “Pride Match” on June 26 despite objections from Iran and Egypt over the Pride branding. Both nations asked FIFA to intervene, but local organizers say the plans stand.

Just a shout out for one of my personal favorite, and dare I say, one of the best pieces of fiction constructed. Everyone should binge that first season. I'm looking forward to season 2 coming out in about a month. You should too.

Bruce Harrell & Jenny Durkan both stood in the way when we tried to make SE streets safer. I'll forever hold that grudge. No matter where I live. Instead of protecting SE kids, they drove division between neighbors, all to basically do jack shit (save for the few improvements we forced through).
This is the same intersection where a 6-year-old was it in June and where we held our "memorial for future victims":

Half a block from a playground, a neighborhood greenway, & a preschool. This angers me from 7000 miles away. Streets in an area like this should be designed to make it impossible for people to drive dangerously. Seattle's streets endanger its children.
About 45 minutes ago, Seattle Fire responded to a driver hitting a 14 year old child at Rainier Ave S and S Oregon Street, near Rainier Playfield.

The child was transported to Harborview with significant injuries.

I love how France is starting to look a bit outside of the box, in part due to Zohran BUT nowhere is like New York. Y'all are overlooking the socialist elected to the west coast city that's much more your speed and size.

I've traveled 3507km on 32 train trips this year apparently. Almost all have been within about 100 km of home. Will add another this weekend.

Aly at CBO. What a huge fucking win. Wow. Seattle is lucky to have such a brilliant mind back at the City.

Everyday life in France is being reminded that my experience (founding a nonprofit, running campaigns, creating laws that affect hundreds of 1000s of people, working on $8b budgets, etc) holds no value outside of the US. It's an everyday lesson in humility. Sometimes (oftentimes) hard to swallow.

One thing I love about Nantes is that there's nothing special about this method of tree delivery, but achievement unlocked nonetheless.

Real talk: The hardest part of moving to France & the thing that has led to many sleepless nights in the nearly 2 years since I arrived is that I miss movement building and I miss working to bring other people hope. One day, perhaps. One day.

This dunce Council thinks they won but all Katie has to do is pull a Bruce or a Jenny & just not spend the $. Let it sit/use it in only the strictest terms that follow the MDARs. As for graffiti, just pass a policy removing burden from property owners & use that $ for in-house on-call spot removal.

As an American with a vision impairment that disqualifies me from driving, I can't adequately express how lucky I feel to live in a top 10 biking city on the Copenhagenize Index. I feel very lucky indeed.

Let's keep up the good work & go for top 5!

Contre le narcotrafic, il faut marcher sur ses deux pieds : répression et prévention.

Une police judiciaire qui doit taper les gros bonnets.

Des moyens pour les assos, les quartiers, les familles, l'école : ce sont eux qui sont en première ligne.

The "lack of experience" for Katie is a red herring. She's had a bigger impact on policy and a more positive one the lives of everyday people than all of the Seattle City Council. None of which held elected office before taking their jobs as co-equal leaders of the city.
November 18, 2025 at 8:18 AM
Fuck, Seattle. I'm so proud of you and so excited for you. Seattle doesn't just get a socialist (!!) or an organizer mayor, but importantly, you get a thoughtful leader who will listen & who will collaborate with you. This is your city. Go, be part of making it better.
November 13, 2025 at 10:25 PM
Congratulations to Mayor-Elect Katie Wilson. Someone so humble, dedicated, and truly influential. Congratulations to the people of Seattle. You deserve an Executive that cares about each and every one of you, and you've now got one. I'm so happy for you.

Sorry to anyone that put any ounce of trust in the legislative ability of Sara Nelson. There's a reason that other legislators didn't go there. Trust me, there was plenty of work on the staff level to see if this could work. It just doesn't. Namely, b/c this area is a pollution corridor.
JUST IN: Washington's Growth Management Hearings Board has invalidated the Seattle City Council's ordinance legalizing housing in a small slice of SoDo near the sports stadiums, siding with the Port of Seattle in its appeal against the move.
November 11, 2025 at 9:58 AM
Seattle could have a lefty mayor for the first time in 15 years. Still about half of Seattle voted for a neolib. This shows that we need to keep building. Do lead with hope. Keep creating programs & services to help people. Crush the remaining narrative that leftists are just big meanies.
November 11, 2025 at 9:49 AM
Katie's such a hard worker and an organizer who works so well with so many people. She's down to earth. She'll fight tooth and nail for you. She deserves this lead. Seattle is gonna get a lefty organizer executive. Congratulations. Seriously.
