This #DementiaActionWeek, @alzheimerssoc.bsky.social is highlighting why early diagnosis matters. It can be scary to speak up - but support and treatment are out there. I wish my dad had acted sooner. If you’re worried, please don’t wait.

This #DementiaActionWeek, I’d like us all to start talking more about this experience that affects so many of us. A lot of us are in the same boat – whether we’re watching a parent, another family member, or a friend navigate this reality.

For #DementiaActionWeek we're joining
@alzheimerssoc.bsky.social to highlight the importance of early dementia diagnoses

~50% of people with #MND experience cognitive changes- it rises to 80% as the condition advances

However, these symptoms are often unexpected and overlooked

It’s #DementiaActionWeek, & I’ve been thinking about what I wish more people understood about dementia. Sometimes, when my dad & I were out walking, I’d notice people pull away - unsure how to react to his unusual behaviour. 🧵 (1/3)

This #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek I’d like to say to every carer for someone with dementia: please take care of your own mental health too. You can’t pour from an empty cup. Try to take time to rest, recharge, do the things that make you feel better, like getting outside into nature. I know it's hard.
