60 years ago today, the Voting Rights Act became a landmark law against racial discrimination in elections.

My latest @npr.org story is about the new threats facing the law’s remaining protections for minority voters

Still fighting for this
Everyone in DC knows that if you want to hide something, announce it on a Friday in August. Better yet, make it nearly impossible to track down.

That's exactly what SCOTUS did last week. But the news is too staggering to hide for long: SCOTUS has decided it's time to destroy the Voting Rights Act.
The Supreme Court prepares to end voting rights as we know it
And they don't want you to notice.

Terrifying Federal courts strike down NJ law. Kegseth and privately owned detention centers sneak it past our reps.

New Jersey Congressmen critical of plans to use MDL to detain immigrants
The Democrats said base commanders told them they have not received any orders to prepare room for an ICE detention center.

They're building a security infrastructure far beyond what would ever be needed for basic immigration enforcement. They will eventually attempt to use it against U.S. citizens for non-immigration matters. Get prepared.

Hope. Mamdani’s success (NYC’s success!) is much needed good news at a time when good news is in short supply. My plea to Blue and Left leaders is to study and learn from his campaign, the inclusivity and solidarity. Dissent is achieved when we get in the same line, together.
A Muslim son of immigrants might become mayor of NYC in part because he cross endorsed and supported a Jewish candidate and Black candidate, and vice versa.

It's a beautiful American story for the rest of us. A nightmare for all the right people ;)

It's so New York.

Criminal enough that he did it without Congressional approval… but turns out he briefed republicans ahead and democrats later. Are we ready yet? Has he done enough? Is it finally time?

Holding the duality of relief that today was a success for those who stood up in the face of tyranny and the heartache that an assassin filled with hatred shattered the lives of so many in Minnesota. Sending my love to all who need or want it.

Watch as this LAPD cop takes deliberate aim at an Australian reporter, then shoots her at close range. I would fire the police chief over this. Inexcusable thuggery.

This...is...not...honest.

This pic is from five years ago and not even in Los Angeles. Immoral opportunists like James Woods and Ted Cruz trade on lies to promote other lies.
