In case you missed this reminder…
On this day in 2021, Kamala Harris was sworn in as Vice President. That evening, she said:
“In many ways, this moment embodies our character as a nation.
It demonstrates who we are.
Even in dark times —
We not only dream. We do.
We not only see what has been, we see what can be.” #WeTheMen

Do you know Alice Paul’s story? #womenssuffrage
On this day in 1885, Alice Paul was born. After she helped win the 19th Amendment, she predicted in December 1922 that it would “not require one hundred years to elect a woman President of the United States” and that women would “comprise half of the membership of Congress” before 2023. #WeTheMen

2026 is the year we save our democracy, not the year we condemn it. ~Celina Stewart, CEO, League of Women Voters of US
January 6, 2021, wasn’t the end of democratic strife, but the beginning of one of the greatest ever threats to our #democracy. Read more about my reflection on this day five years later and how it guides my every move as we head into a major - and I mean major - election year. https://bit.ly/4qExyU3
Five Years After the Insurrection: A Constitutional Crisis, Then v. Now | League of Women Voters
In 2021, the seeds of our current Constitutional Crisis were being sown.Reflecting on this tragic day in 2024, League President Dianna Wynn and I noted that January 6 was a reminder of “the sacredness...

Let’s celebrate this historical day in New York history. Turns out my great-grandmother marched for equal voting rights in New York and also for the entire nation! #equalvotingrights #yourvoteisyourvoice #votingmattets
On this day in 1917, NY women won equal voting rights. The referendum victory—703,129 votes to 600,776—came after years of suffrage marches in NY and a hard-fought loss in a 1915 NY referendum. The victory helped set the stage for the final push for the Nineteenth Amendment. #WeTheMen

So true! Live to read! 📚
Read in public. Read in private. Read e-books, genre books, comics, fanfiction. Read literature. Read nonfiction. Read books you’ve already read. Listen to audiobooks. Read what you want. There’s no such thing as “doing reading the wrong way.”

This should happen! Maybe one day!
Congress has never designated a legal public holiday (the kind that closes fed’l offices) to celebrate an important woman in US history or to recognize women’s struggles against sex discrimination. How about Aug. 26, the anniversary of the 19th Amendment & the Women’s Strike for Equality? #WeTheMen

Organizations would never consider giving sewing machines as retirement gifts to women today, thank goodness! #genderequality #womenleaders
On this day in 1905, Maggie Kuhn was born. She became a senior rights activist and co-founded the Gray Panthers in 1970, after she was forced out of her job at 65 and given a sewing machine as a parting gift. #WeTheMen.

Applause to Doris Fleishman for starting this trend! There are many of us who can relate! #personalbranding
On this day in 1891, Doris Fleischman was born. She became a feminist and kept her last name after marrying in 1922. She was the first married American woman to have a passport issued under her "maiden name." She told authorities that she did not want "to travel under a false name.” #WeTheMen

Defend democracy. Stand up. Speak up.
➡️ This Independence Day, we must choose: accept the comfortable fiction that our democracy is business as usual, or acknowledge that nothing is usual about the time we are in, and respond with urgency. #4thofJuly

Check out these interesting facts about the women suffrage movement! #Equality
On this day in 1919, Texas became the first southern state to ratify the 19th Amendment prohibiting sex-based denials of the vote. Texas suffragists had already won partial enfranchisement & they used that voting power to push for the 19th Amendment. #WeTheMen
