Hey @mattcameron.bsky.social, any chance people could rely on s287(e) to walk around without being accosted by ICE?

Note: I'm mostly joking, as my understanding is that "premises" would also apply to "other outdoor agricultural operation".

So, Frank M. "Mitch" Bradley could have used the later advice of the six members of Congress as to refusing illegal orders to murder. He should be prosecuted fully.
Hegseth's not the only war criminal here. "The [USSOCOM] commander overseeing the operation from Fort Bragg in North Carolina, Adm. Frank M. 'Mitch' Bradley, told people on the secure conference call that the survivors were still legitimate targets... He ordered the second strike."
Hegseth order on first Caribbean boat strike, officials say: Kill them all
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a verbal order to kill all crew members in the Sept. 2 strike on a suspected drug boat. Navy SEALs fired a second missile.

Someone should ingest all TikTok videos, convert them into embeddings, then see the actual drift over time for individual users' feeds.
Aggregating the drift per user would help to reverse engineer any algorithmic bias, and uncover if there was intent to cause the aggregate drift.

I know people questioned by Congress can be defensive, but here's what I don't get:
When they are clearly expressing contempt for the entire hearing process, and it's regular oversight, not McCarthyist crap, why isn't it contempt of Congress?
By letting it slide, they encourage more contempt.

Way to make it sound like opting out will result in some goons coming to my house to beat me up.

I mean, if they're not going to ask again, I either shouldn't have to opt out, or they're saying the next contact won't be consensual (although I didn't sign up for this one either).

Hey @gavinnewsom.bsky.social, can you please confirm that the crimes of individual ICE agents in California, whether following orders or not, will be prosecuted as soon as possible?

Hey @govpritzker.illinois.gov, I don't know if you're seriously going to run for President, but if you do, I know how you can win:
Make a binding promise to literally give away everything except $100m; you can live the life of the ultra wealthy, but be far away from a billionaire.

I don't get why they call the place(?) you can get health insurance from under the ACA an "exchange".

If I go into a deli, and buy a bagel one day, but the next day order soup, that's not me trading on an exchange; it's a menu.

Can I also sell things on the ACA exchange?

What am I missing?

@openargs.bsky.social, have you guys heard of Walk Away Campaign, run by some guy called Brandon, in the photo?
He just held a rally at Washington Square Park in NYC.
It was full of anti-democratic-socialist, dishonest rhetoric, supporting Joseph Hernandez (Quality of Life Party) against Mamdani.

Hey @hankgreen.bsky.social, I just watched youtu.be/BdpSfrD3Nzs. This really should be huge, breaking news. It probably won't be. Either way, thanks for doing the work.

@mattcameron.bsky.social and @jenessaseymour.bsky.social, you spoke on Opening Arguments that Boston was a safe city.
Yesterday, I walked 16km from the Seaport district to Oak Hill, counting every time I was threatened or saw an act of violence.
The count was 0.
All I saw was a beautiful city.

Instead of directly pushing for D.C. statehood, push to revert some states back to territories.

It's not a good idea, but the obvious complaint would is that it's wrong for those states' citizens to have no representation.

Then, the discussion can be about why it's different for D.C.

Hey @scalzi.com, what are your thoughts on the US securing the whole microprocessor supply chain?

It seems there are a lot of parallels between current geopolitics and the themes of the Interdependency series.

The font really isn't the most important thing here but I can't stop thinking about the use by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs of a modernized version of a classic Nazi typeface in its announcement that Republicans will be (among other things) attempting to revoke passports of US citizens

One of my favorite prank stories (that I heard thirdhand from someone else) was this: (and I promise it will be relevant)

A fraternity went through the extensive process to formally buy a park bench from the city. Then, one morning, two of them went to the location of the park bench.
Back in the olden days 3 years ago, Republicans claimed they just didn’t want mandates. No mask mandates, no vaccine mandates. They just wanted a “choice”.

Now they’ve successfully managed to ban masks in several public places, and they are also taking away access to vaccines.

I didn't see much 9/11 memorial stuff this year, which is a shame.

We should make an effort to understand the history of the erosion of civil liberties we used to take for granted.

There are adults who never experienced a time that people weren't constantly treated as suspects.

The shooter was a time traveller from 2076, who went back to yesterday, to proverbially "kill baby Hitler", because in his timeline, Kirk was elected president in 2032 at the age of 38, and ruled with an iron fist for at least the next 44 years.

Breaking news: it was revenge for biting the shooter's finger, many years ago.

Hey @openargs.bsky.social, @mattcameron.bsky.social, regarding the ICE raid at the Hyundai plant, can you talk about how the warrant would have enabled the officers to detain and question individual workers?
Were the workers required to answer questions? Was there a presumption of guilt?

– War Crime of Starvation as a Method of Warfare
