Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

I really fear that this illegal war on Venezuela will prove, in the short term, to be a quick, relatively bloodless success, and elected Republicans will feel emboldened to defend it, neocons will cheerlead it and then the (mainstream) media class will quietly fall in line.

The US is the most dangerous country in the world. Not because its superior military will always temp unprincipled leaders to misadventures around the world. No, because of the combination of the aforementioned fact and the disinterest of its citizens in what their government is doing in the world.

At first I thought this was after their meeting. But it's actually before. I think this means that Trump doesn't need much convincing to go to war against Iran. Because short of installing a puppet regime, there's no world in which Iran doesn't produce ballistic missiles for deterrence.

Let me get this straight. Hegseth decided that the military would rescue survivors who appeared shipwrecked and helpless, but would try to kill them if they took 'hostile actions,' like attempting to communicate with others? But if you were really shipwrecked, wouldn't you try to call for help?

At some point, we're going to have to admit that behind all the anti-immigration fervor on the right is a theory of race: The idea that nations succeed or fail because of the racial make-up of its people. On this view, Somalis end up being among the most unwanted because of the situation in Somalia.
