Feeling pretty good about the blanket coverage we got yesterday. First out with the narrative, great visuals. And all accurate!
The bottle bill will increase DC’s recycling rates. By making bottles worth 10 cents when they are returned, we are helping make sure people don’t just throw them on the ground.

The D.C. Council hearing on the proposed bottle-bill starts shortly, with more than 200 people signed up to testify. Ahead of the hearing, @mayorbowser.dc.gov's administration has come out against the bill, saying it's a new obstacle for businesses already facing challenges.

Wisdom from my colleague
Meni: "Tenant protections are being used as a wedge, threatened under the guise of housing production being down.

"There are massive economic factors that influence that. It's not kind of thing where we should be bulldozing tenants to build more housing."

Immigrants and advocates tell me that MPD's growing cooperation with ICE on immigration enforcement in D.C. has made them fearful to call local police if they witness a crime or are victims of one. Trust that MPD built up over years may have been demolished in recent weeks: 51st.news/ice-presence...

Federal occupation of an American city.
DC is under siege by our own federal government, with armed military patrolling our streets & masked agents scooping up neighbors & taking them away. Our residents are afraid, hesitant to go out & to work, angry that our limited autonomy is being eroded. There is nothing welcome about this.

Would not have to cut one dime if we just let the tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires expire.
Trump's recently passed megabill is expected to increase the federal deficit by $3.4 trillion and cause 10 million people to lose health insurance, Congress’ nonpartisan scorekeeper predicts.

I’m on my way to the Capitol right now with other councilmembers to ask House GOP to fix their mistake in the CR that would cut $1b from DC’s budget – DC's own money! It would cut police, fire, teachers & more. That does not make DC safer, cleaner, or better!

This afternoon at USAID right next to where I work. Dozens of people clapping for employees coming in to clear out their desks. Many cars honking in support. More people were on the other side, by the Trade Center.
