John 17 - so great! Jesus prays for the holiness of his people, the unity of his people, the protection of his people, the mission of his people, & the safe arrival of his people in glory. I have exactly zero confidence in our ability today but total confidence in Jesus' prayers.

When Christ called his first apostles they were "casting their nets" and "mending their nets" (Matt 4). Both casting and mending are the essential work of ministry - seeking to bring people to faith and seeing the broken and torn restored/equipped. Let’s grow churches doing both.

Said it before, will say it again: Musk has likely made Holocaust denial more lucrative than any time in history.

Look, the world has gone after him. - John 12

And so it shall. But before this we must give thanks that he went after the world!

The only type of Protestant Christianity that is substantially growing?

Non-denoms

I have a theory as to why:

Non-denoms thrive on the declining institutional trust in the U.S. I test that theory in a new post today - and there's something there.

Is Distrust Driving the Rise in Non-Denominationalism?
I always tell people I’m not biased against groups like Hindus, lesbians, or vegans.

Unity in the Church is
* Historical - one with the Apostles in the Faith (Jn 17)
* Spiritual - “of the Spirit” (Ephesians 4)
* Personal - we can “dwell together in unity” in the household of God (Ps 133)

With Jesus, let us pray and strive for this unity today as a witness to his love.

We are all in the heating and lighting business.

“He was a burning and shining light.” - Jesus about John the Baptist.

In these often chilly, dark days, bring the luminous flame of Christ’s mercy to all.

The sermons offered today begin with empty pantries, with broken, barren messengers going to a friend in the middle of the night and saying "Lend me three loaves, for a friend has come to me from afar and I have nothing to set before him."

The generosity of grace has stocked her cupboard with the…

Looking at the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5, I can't help observing that any notion of holiness that makes us less loving, less kind, less joyful, less patient, less peaceful, etc. is, well... mistaken. Holiness is love on fire not condescension on ice.

Dostoyevsky in Brothers Karamazov:

"The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others."

Prayer is not a utility plugged in to get our will done but an invitation to communion with God where we discover his will and give ourselves to his purpose.
