14 years ago today I had to say goodbye to my Dad. He always told me that a lost loved one is the brightest star in the night sky.
I use the night sky to feel close to him, it brings me peace.

This one is for you Dad, I miss you.💜💫

🌌 Last night’s capture — the Soul Nebula shining 6,500 light-years away. 💫 this is a 2 panel mosaic, hence the uneven background. Still capturing data on this beauty #astrophotography #space #astronomy

Data from last nights clear sky.

The Ghost of Cassiopeia (IC 63) glows with hydrogen and dust, lit by a nearby giant star. Even ghosts need starlight to shine. 💫 #NASA #Astrophotography #Cassiopeia

Caught Comet Lemmon shining through a Bortle 4 sky on our mini break. Just us, the stars, and the SeeStar doing its magic. 💫✨

My all-time favorite astrophotography app. It doesn't compress my images, and it's a space filled with beautiful snaps of the cosmos with the added nerd bonus of capture info.

The Sadr Region, glowing in the heart of Cygnus.

Captured last night with 2 hours on each SHO filter.

Just a small attempt to show the beauty that’s already there.

Spent a few nights this week collecting data on the Eastern Veil Nebula in Cygnus. This is part of a huge supernova remnant, the aftermath of a massive star that exploded about 8,000 years ago.

This is in SHO, a less common choice for this target.

Collecting data on the beautiful Eastern Veil Nebula this month. This is around 4hrs HA and 1hr 40 of OIII. Can't get more OIII until the pesky moon is out of the way. Here is a rough process so far #astro #astronomy

Kicking off the new academic year tomorrow with a hands-on making session . . . a group of teachers have asked me to help them explore fossils through 3D making. It's a bit like asking the Cookie Monster to do training about biscuits. 😆😆😆

The colours of the universe! 8 hours of smart shooting overnight. Great to wake up and see what this little scope has captured and here they are now I've processed them. I've added AI descriptions in ALT so blame that if you disagree 🤣 #astronomy #astrophotography #StormHour #PhotoHour

Here’s our capture of NGC 7023 – the Iris Nebula 🌌.
Located about 1,300 light-years away in Cepheus, the Iris glows as starlight reflects off cosmic dust, illuminating the surrounding dark interstellar clouds.

🔭 What do you see when you look into the Iris?

The fog parted unexpectedly last night to give me two more hours to work on the galaxy NGC 7479. Two more hours is not much, but it's more than I expected. #Astronomy #Astrophotography

✨ The Cave Nebula (Sh2-155)
Captured over 21 hours of exposure time (and still adding more!), this cosmic cloud lies about 2,400 light-years away in Cepheus. Its dark dust lanes and glowing gas create the illusion of a celestial cave, where new stars are born. #astrophotography

Jupiter and Venus at 4am this morning, against a sprinkling of Gemini stars

I missed out on their closest apparent approach, which was yesterday, but they'll remain very close together in the early Eastern sky for several days yet

3 moons of Jupiter are visible and labelled

The squish decided to take a rare nap, so I sketched for an hour. I came across a beautiful sketch by @marymcintyreastro.bsky.social of Ptolemaeus, Alphonsus, and Arzachel and felt inspired. At first, I wasn't happy, but I reminded myself to trust the process. I think it turned out okay 🌙✨

SeeStar captured the Dumbbell Nebula (M27) last night about 1,300 light-years away in Vulpecula. It's always satisfying when the skies are clear enough for a good shot. #astrophotography #space #sky
