As leaders assemble for the #COP30 climate talks in #belem, we need to remind our own government that #ClimateActionNow is absolutely essential. We must fight for a #JustTransition to a stable climate 🌍

We'll be joining the National #Climate Demonstration on the 15th and want to see you there too.
We need to send the message to the government and EU that #ClimateAction is needed now more than ever

#AI isn’t sorting climate chaos, it’s making it much, much worse, and increasing inequality at the same time.
We have a choice - this option does _not_ have to be taken. We need to fight more seriously against the AI take over

The idea that the city is evil and corrupt, and the countryside innocent and pure, goes back a long way: to Theocritus in Alexandria, and to the Old Testament. 🧵

Every far-right riot and protest that was tolerated, every racist dog whistle from public reps, every bit of hate and misinformation allowed to spread by social media companies, all led to this moment in Drogheda last night where someone felt emboldened enough to try to burn children alive.

The climate emergency isn’t just about weather - it’s about lives.
And if we aren't measuring something, we can’t manage it.

I worked on this terrible bill in then Senator Grace O’Sullivan’s office, with @whittledaway.bsky.social, @naturenymph.bsky.social, @fintankelly.bsky.social, @aliceeire.bsky.social and many others. We had to campaign for months just to remove a section that would have decimated our hedgerows.
Heather Humphreys was a disaster as minister in charge of heritage and nature. She didn't meet nature groups and seemed to have no interest in her job expect for when it came to weaking wildlife laws to allow more burning and hedge-cutting.

I still can't believe that they're doing this. Giving a massive VAT tax break that'll do very little for small cafés and restaurants, while giving millions to big chains.
Weak, unfocused governance. They're too comfortable chucking out our tax money.

It's official. They're giving big restaurant chains a massive tax cut, costing nearly €700m in the #VAT cut to hospitality.
For that kind of money you could:
👨👩👦👦 Bring in a second tier of child benefit - lifting 55,000 children out of poverty

Over the summer, the Government raided the Climate & Nature fund to pay for gaps in their infrastructure bill. Today's Budget could have fixed that and committed new investment for nature and the environment.
Unfortunately, there has been no change in their approach. A wasted opportunity.

A big blanket VAT cut? It's a bad idea. Better to give smarter, more targetted supports for cafes and restaurants.
We've set out a way to give more to small businesses while spending about a third of what the government are planning.
Be smart: do more, spend less!
