On Sunday evening I had the honour to meet the great Lloyd Kaufman at a screening of Tromeo and Juliet. So wonderful to encounter this utter sunbeam of a man who is still so dedicated to us fans. And also the lovely Patricia Kaufman who is also delightful.

#nowwatching Thirst (1979), an Australian cult/conspiracy exploitation film I first saw at @fwfilmfestival.bsky.social and loved it so much I had to grab a copy at the last Indicator sale.

(P.S. @indicator.bsky.social plz add Razorback and Next of Kin to your ozploitation line)

It’s “Oops, all seventies!” in this #lastfourwatched

An almost perfect run of communism spoilt by a last second Shaw Brothers. Three East German sci-fi glam disco sagas full of the glorious future of socialism followed by Chang Cheh showing how the disabled are still deadly.

I’m going to get to see this live in about a month thanks to @slapstickfest.bsky.social so this lovely review is very timely for me. 👍 Sounds like I’ll be having a blast with Olive Thomas.
Today's review covers THE FLAPPER (1920). Olive Thomas plays a daffy teen who gets herself into all manner of trouble as she chases boys and tries to prove that she is a sophisticated woman of the world and not some kid from Orange Springs.

Olive Thomas plays a feather-brained teen who wants adventure, excitement, danger, and soda pop in equal measure. She gets more than she bargains for when she lies about her age and ends up tangled…

Last night at @cubecinema.com for the farewell tour of Hellfire Video Club 😭 starting with the sweet restoration of Night of the Juggler by @filmsradiance.bsky.social An absolute glorious blast of NYC sleaze and action. One of those films that makes movies magic

"I got a feeling it's going to be another goddamn New York day." Something I keep banging on about in regards to modern movies is that you never get to stop and ask yourself "how did they do that?!?" ...

It’s #lastfourfriday

We have suspenseful Hitchcock goodness, high stakes accountancy, a year in the life for some nice and ordinary people and the absolute worst porno I have ever seen.

RIP Yuen Cheung-yan, member of the prolific Yuen Clan who was an actor, stunt man, action choreographer and director in some amazing films from the golden age of Hong Kong action and beyond. Did a memorial watch of a film where he was all of the above.

So Trump is sending in the military to invade Venezuela and is right now bombing Caracas. This won’t end well for anybody anywhere. If he actually puts boots on the ground I bet things will get out of hand very quickly.

Plan for 2026: Do The Parent Trap for real but instead of getting my divorced parents back together I’m going to reunite the Coen Brothers.

My first watch of 2026 is the amazing ping pong movie that isn’t really about ping pong. It’s about how you can succeed by being 15% less full of shit.

For my first #lastfourwatched of 2026 we have the ping pong movie that’s not actually about ping pong, brits trying to stop yanks from getting everyone killed, a new years caper in the far future of 1999 and the most 2026 film of 1987.

I saw that at Mayhem Film Festival earlier this year and it was one of the highlights of the fest. A great piece of inventive filmmaking that gets so much out its premise.

It’s #lastfourwatched Friday!

We have a very interesting gender bender twist on Jekyll and Hyde, an unfortunately disappointing Stephen King adaptation, Alice Guy’s recounting of the Paris Commune and the story of the most Japanese man who ever lived.

Just watched one of the more interesting Hammer Horror films, DOCTOR JEKYLL & SISTER HYDE. Absolute top tier period settings combined with a maybe progressive maybe problematic gender bender plot. More going on here than the usual gothic shocker.

-French people do crime
-staring Christopher Lee/Peter Cushing/Vincent Price/Boris Karloff
-creative visionaries from Eastern Europe fighting communist censorship to bring you the most mind bending shit possible
-Hong Kong stunt men nearly dying for that shot
-Italian people do crime, very violently
What are your top 5 movie genres? Mine are:

- Roaring rampage of revenge
- Reluctantly, I must resume my life of violence
- On reflection, the risk assessment on our giant monster facility and/or attraction could have been more thorough
- Girl survives
- Crime but make it quirky

It’s a game of two halves for my #lastfourwatched

First we had queer Chinese romance and character dramas followed by a bonkers Rock Hudson melodrama.

After that it’s the manliest films ever made with the first two Predator films, rewatched to prep for Predator: Badlands

#nowwatching It’s the day after #Halloween so it’s apt to watch The Day After Halloween (1979), or Snapshot if you’re outside the US.
