Physical media, baking, standing stones, these are a few of my favourite things.

My Letterboxd: https://boxd.it/3dAKD
It’s a game of two halves for my #lastfourwatched

First we had queer Chinese romance and character dramas followed by a bonkers Rock Hudson melodrama.

After that it’s the manliest films ever made with the first two Predator films, rewatched to prep for Predator: Badlands

#nowwatching It’s the day after #Halloween so it’s apt to watch The Day After Halloween (1979), or Snapshot if you’re outside the US.

Plus after a weekend of Ozploitation at Forbidden Worlds I’m hankering for some more Australian goodness.

Getting ready for a midnight #halloween screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at @wshed.bsky.social and on getting into the theatre I see there’s a script for audience participation?

Starting to wonder just what I’ve gotten myself into!

Absolutely brilliant on every level as a piece of filmmaking and bloody chilly to boot. Easily one of the highlights of my first #hooptober

Honestly amazing the BBC never repeated it on any subsequent Hallowe’ens.

Fear the glory hole! 👻

My penultimate watch for #hooptober is the infamous 1992 broadcast that cased an uproar, GHOSTWATCH!

I was too young to see this back then, but I hope I’m grown up enough to endure Parky meeting a ghost. Been saving this just for Halloween!

It’s #lastfourfriday and I’m finishing up my #Hooptober list

We have Palestine’s first horror movie, my annual rewatch of WNUF and John Carpenter’s almost cozy ghost story.

Plus there’s my first watch of the BFI’s melodrama season. Fell in love with Jane Wyman ❤️

It’s been a few days since I saw Thirst at @fwfilmfestival.bsky.social and the more I think about it the more I like it. Australia takes the most European of monster and takes it back to its original form as a satire of parasitic aristocracy. Leftist genre fav like They Live?

A ★★★★½ review of Thirst (1979)
Hooptober XII #27 Cult or conspiracy 3/3 Australia is not a country that does much with the traditional monsters of Europe, preferring to use their own homegrown horrors. Which is a shame because with...

Day two of @fwfilmfestival.bsky.social and here is where we get to see some right dinkum boguns getting up to a bit of right nasty mischief.

Having myself an autumnal treat before the second half of Forbidden Worlds gets going. Pumpkin spice, big cookie and a heartwarming tale of adorable small town people (and serial murder).

After having to miss the last couple I’ve finally made it back to the Big Scream edition of @fwfilmfestival.bsky.social

Ozploitation is one cinematic rabbit hole I’ve wanted to get deeper into for a while. Those Aussies know how to have a good bloody time

My #lastfourwatched has an unintentional theme: ladies being extra.

We have anime ladies going crazy, German ladies getting arty and fabulous, twin ladies getting stabby and old timey lady getting spooked.

I have just survived three and a half days of dimension hopping, murder, ghosts and hell portals at @mayhemfilmfestival.bsky.social and I’m a bit tired. But I had an absolute blast! Nothing but hits all festival. Must now sleep. 😴

And in five days I’m doing it again at Forbidden Worlds! 😳

Back for day two of @mayhemfilmfestival.bsky.social and the film that got me to come all the way to Nottingham, CHESS OF THE WIND.

Been watching a fair bit of Iranian film this year, so I’m eager to see this almost lost pre-revolutionary era masterpiece.

Started off my first ever trip to @mayhemfilmfestival.bsky.social with my first ever world premiere of a feature film, GAME.

A delightful mix of nineties rave culture, Rear Window, The Most Dangerous Game and Penda’s Fen. It’s really good!

Now seated for the first film of @mayhemfilmfestival.bsky.social for which I traveled all the way from Bristol.

Current status: Anticipation!

I have made it to Nottingham for @mayhemfilmfestival.bsky.social !

It’s a nice place!

Well that was disturbing. Ninety minutes of ripped from the headlines tension, paranoia and tyranny. Also a great into to the underseen world of Filipino cinema.

#nowatching my #hooptober film 18/31, KISAPMATA, a chiller from Filipino director Mike De Leon.

He's a director that is highly regarded by his peers, so I'm interested in his take on the physiological horror genre. Luckily for all RareFilmm has this film available.

Thanks to @wshed.bsky.social I got to watch this in an actual cinema instead of my piddly television, which really helped the glorious visuals pop. The acting was great too, but my goodness the visuals!

#Hooptober bonus watch #7, Guillermo del Toro’s FRANKENSTEIN!

Got a preview screening thanks to #lff25 and I’m sure this will be an epic highlight. Del Toro does live his monsters with humanity, so this should be perfect for him.

That was a treat. I had already seen this a bunch of times but @deathandvanilla.bsky.social breathed new life into it. Plus watching it with an audience who appreciated Michael Hordern’s performance was great too.

Soon I’ll be watching Whistle And I’ll Come To You with a live score by @deathandvanilla.bsky.social

A fun little treat for my #hooptober challenge thanks to @cubecinema.com

Normally a December watch for me, but I’ll make an exception for this special occasion.
October 12, 2025 at 6:05 PM
That was certainly a very Lanthimos film, with amazing performances by Emma Stone and Plemons. Disturbingly 2025.

#nowwatching my #hooptober bonus film #5, Bugonia!

A sneaky addition thanks to #lff25 and @wshed.bsky.social also the second new release this year where Emma Stone gets her life upended by our conspiracy loving world.

Such a great film, not entirely what I was expecting but I’m glad it surprised me. There’s a lot to this film, and I’ll definitely want to see more of Jafar Panahi’s work soon.
