I don’t think vacancy rates are that high across the board but it is still frustrating to see high vacancies and is often used as a reason to not build more housing. One potential solution is a kind of vacancy tax that can actually be implemented incredibly easily here in Utah! Here’s how:
We also don’t have a shortage of rental units. Some buildings in the valley are like 40% empty. Building more rentals =\= fixing the housing crisis. We thought it might. It didn’t. Time to accept that and move on.

Were any Republicans who are screaming about how "NYC is lost" likely to say anything good about the city (or any city) if the mayoral primary had taken a different direction? The answer is no. They are scared of cities either way.

I wholeheartedly endorse Ben Peck for Chair of the Utah Democratic Party. The fight to stop the chaos caused by Musk and Trump starts at home, and Ben is willing and ready to stand up. It’s time for something different, and Ben’s winning record shows he’s the right person to make a real difference.
