I am planning to begin PhD work on the following ideas and I would appreciate any helpful and specific comment. This will be a thread.
I teach the Bible (Old Testament and New Testament as separate courses) in a Christian day school. In my case, I teach 10-12th grade.

Hearing from Community Partners International, which works from Myanmar to Bangladesh, that USAID cuts mean 14,000 people with HIV losing access to lifesaving meds and a total stop in all HIV and TB screening. So many people will die due to these chaotic, sudden, horrifically implemented cuts.

Two of our community schools are closing early today due to an impending snowfall. If a third makes a similar call, we two will close early.

I dont want to shovel snow, so I am a little torn.

I have had a @supernote.com Manta for almost a week now, and I wonder how I did my job before it became part of my routine. Early days yet, but it has been an excellent experience so far.

Back to school on Monday. There are no snow days on the forecast for the next two weeks. I'm trying to hype myself up for the last 8 class periods before exams.

Trends in Cognitive Sciences recently published an opinion piece on the threat of LLMs like ChatGPT making it easy for misinformation to be widely championed as accurate, which feeds misinformation back into the LLM, further institutionalizing the misinformation.

Two weeks of class left before Christmas break. Each day is a slog. Teachers dragging kids through the remaining projects and lessons while pretending like we aren't out of gas and ready to be on break, too. #teachers

I just sent off my statement of purpose to a colleague for editing. Getting closer to a complete application to a PhD. program. Everything should be ready for Friday.

I'm excited but also nervous that I might actually get in.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8 Ultra, which I like and will continue to use, but I am thinking about an #eink device for reading and annotation, hoping to take advantage of my commute and longer less fatiguing reading sessions. I will be doing a lot of reading and notetaking for school.
Worth it?

So, you’re a recent PhD who has fallen in love with the idea of teaching at an independent school. You cannot wait to get into a classroom and teach. That’s great! But what are the actual duties involved? Before you make the jump, keep some (more) things in mind: 1/14
