I suspect other factors are at play too, lack of access to meaningful and person centred social work, access to advocacy support, ad hoc eligibility decisions at funding panels and a a system that for most is confusing, impenetrable and consequently’impossible’ to navigate #socialcare
Really important point re social care from @pjtheeconomist.bsky.social @thetimes.com

Why work in social care, even if you’re paid the real living wage of £12.60ph, most get minimum wage, jobs laden with regulation, responsibility & accountability when with no experience you can work in a supermarket warehouse and earn £16.48ph? Caring for people or caring for dried goods #socialcare

Nice one Wes Streeting, I’m here for this, I’d pay good money to watch the sour faced Cerberus that holds sway at our GP surgery go through training. There’s a fly on the wall in this for Channel4

This, the money is there, but the political will is sadly lacking. Remember the solution is always political and ideological #socialcare #socialcarecrisis
The government has told elderly & disabled people to wait until 2028 to hear its plan for social care.

What about those who are suffering here and now?

We don’t need a commission to know what to do: end austerity, reverse privatisation and build a National Care Service for all.

“Soon there will be nothing left to reform”.

Why the care sector is impatient for the government’s new care commission to come up with answers, rather than just recap the same old problems.

The total intellectual vacuum amongst our politicians www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/01... Wes Streeting might manage to produce a social care plan by 2028. By then, Labour will be in its last inglorious days in office. How did people as incompetent as this ever reach high office in the UK?

Always boils my blood this one, we’d be naive to think they act altruistically. They have the cures and therapies and the means to transform millions of lives, but big biotec and Pharma just don’t want us to have them. They need to keep us sick

Listened to your excellent show today @mrjamesob.bsky.social Gentle challenge to the concept of 'moving people INTO social care'. Social care is not a destination (even if the media see everything as care homes). Social care is help to live your life your way. It's all of us & our futures.
