On the day the last pints of Banks’s Mild are pulled in the Black Country this abomination. What has happened to us?

One for @mikeewins.bsky.social, the mighty Carlisle United rollin’ through the West Midlands on a Tuesday evening, where they’re off to🤷🏻‍♂️

My first Villa Park game was 57 years ago almost to the day. So many memories as we commemorated 150 years of @avfc-official.bsky.social tonight. Great to get the win and to be able to share an emotional night on The Holte with my sons and grandson. We did not choose, we were chosen #avfc

Why work in social care, even if you’re paid the real living wage of £12.60ph, most get minimum wage, jobs laden with regulation, responsibility & accountability when with no experience you can work in a supermarket warehouse and earn £16.48ph? Caring for people or caring for dried goods #socialcare

Nice one Wes Streeting, I’m here for this, I’d pay good money to watch the sour faced Cerberus that holds sway at our GP surgery go through training. There’s a fly on the wall in this for Channel4

It’s the BIG 40!! Yes, 2025 marks my fortieth year working in #socialcare, the vast majority in #Birmingham. I’ve added a few more thoughts and reminiscences in the pic below. If I was to write a book I don’t think many people would believe the story I could tell📖

A huge 👏👏to colleagues and fab volunteers for spending part of Christmas Day preparing our 5th community Xmas lunch. We’ve nearly 40 people coming who otherwise would have been alone today. And thanks to Northfield Community Partnership and Northfield NNS for their generous support 🍽️ #Birmingham

For those of us who have been around long enough to remember Blair’s toothless Compact then without urgent funds and meaningful and purposeful co-produced reform it will look just like Compact 2, covered in dust and quietly put out to grass. We need more than reports, documents and rhetoric.

What a magical morning at the Families Together at Christmas concert. Unbelievably we’re in our 10th year and what absolute privilege to be celebrating in the wonderful surrounds of Birmingham Symphony Hall. Wonderful performances and a really lovely Christmasy vibe #Birmingham

Access to quality housing is a critical indicator in wellbeing. Ensuring a safe, secure home is a central pillar of Midland Mencap's mission and vision. This is our latest bungalow refurbishment awaiting new tenants who will move in next week #Birmingham #LearningDisability

Busy day, including doing a brilliant podcast with students from St Paul’s Academy, at the PURE Expo event at Villa Park with a wide range of speakers joining together to address issues of inequalities impacting employment opportunities in #Birmingham
December 2, 2024 at 5:26 PM
Really looking forward to taking part in the PURE Expo. The PURE Project supports people with complex barriers towards education, training and employment. PURE partners, including Midland Mencap, have worked with more than 5,000 people across Birmingham to build confidence, develop new skills

This is the way forward, it still doesn’t mean the Bill should pass, or that we would ever have the right safeguards in place, or resolve the reality of coercion or bias, but at least we would be further forwarding on understanding principles of choice #AssistedDyingBill

Ended the day at the footy. I’m a huge fan of TIFO displays, #AVFC’s last night was outstanding, took me back to watching Villa in the late 60’s & 70’s when this was such a recognisable image. The club should definitely use it more going forward, distinctly ours in a world full of rampant lions

Park that we were robbed by a dreadful refereeing decision and hold the thought we’re playing Champions League football. Another brilliant night at Villa Park #UTV

Much to reflect on after the WMCA Reducing Disability Inequalities Summit. Here’s one of the biggest barriers to address, meaningful employment. Just look at data for adults with a learning disability. I’d bet it’s even lower for Birmingham. Pressure now on the Government Get Britain Working plans

I’m at the @WestMids_CA led Reducing Disability Inequalities Summit, really looking forward to spending the day with colleagues driving the agenda to make the West Midlands an exemplar region for citizens with lived experience of disability to thrive #WestMidlands #ReducingDisabilityInequalityWM

A fab session at Midland Mencap facilitated by Volunteering Matters and Deloitte supporting five voluntary and community orgs to explore how social media can be better used to raise visibility, awareness and connect to the public and funders/donors. Two sectors working together for social impact

Our exhibition of 8 decades of life at Midland Mencap. In marking 75 years of the charity’s work it charts the lives of people with a learning disability in Birmingham/West Midlands since 1949. We have some incredible material to tell the story with, a story that needs telling #learningdisability

Due to subsidence, caused by badgers excavating under our building, we’ve had to demolish part of our community hub. It’s a sad loss of delivery space but we will do all we can to replace it asap. The medieval moat of Weoley Castle is in the background of the video #Birmingham #voluntarysector
