My first Villa Park game was 57 years ago almost to the day. So many memories as we commemorated 150 years of @avfc-official.bsky.social tonight. Great to get the win and to be able to share an emotional night on The Holte with my sons and grandson. We did not choose, we were chosen #avfc

Why work in social care, even if you’re paid the real living wage of £12.60ph, most get minimum wage, jobs laden with regulation, responsibility & accountability when with no experience you can work in a supermarket warehouse and earn £16.48ph? For those of us who have been around long enough to remember Blair’s toothless Compact then without urgent funds and meaningful and purposeful co-produced reform it will look just like Compact 2, covered in dust and quietly put out to grass. We need more than reports, documents and rhetoric.

Really looking forward to taking part in the PURE Expo. The PURE Project supports people with complex barriers towards education, training and employment. PURE partners, including Midland Mencap, have worked with more than 5,000 people across Birmingham to build confidence, develop new skills

This is the way forward, it still doesn’t mean the Bill should pass, or that we would ever have the right safeguards in place, or resolve the reality of coercion or bias, but at least we would be further forwarding on understanding principles of choice #AssistedDyingBill

Ended the day at the footy. I’m a huge fan of TIFO displays, #AVFC’s last night was outstanding, took me back to watching Villa in the late 60’s & 70’s when this was such a recognisable image. The club should definitely use it more going forward, distinctly ours in a world full of rampant lions

Much to reflect on after the WMCA Reducing Disability Inequalities Summit. Here’s one of the biggest barriers to address, meaningful employment. Just look at data for adults with a learning disability. I’d bet it’s even lower for Birmingham. Pressure now on the Government Get Britain Working plans

Our exhibition of 8 decades of life at Midland Mencap. In marking 75 years of the charity’s work it charts the lives of people with a learning disability in Birmingham/West Midlands since 1949. We have some incredible material to tell the story with, a story that needs telling #learningdisability

Due to subsidence, caused by badgers excavating under our building, we’ve had to demolish part of our community hub. It’s a sad loss of delivery space but we will do all we can to replace it asap. The medieval moat of Weoley Castle is in the background of the video #Birmingham #voluntarysector
