It's not just the games themselves that are suffering in the current funding drought, it's so disheartening to consistently be seeing the lack of financial support for events and organisations that provide support to the wider local industry.

crunch in games is reckless, it’s running a car without oil or care, watching sparks fly and smoke billow and going “that’s what maximum efficiency sounds like, when parts fail I’ll replace them knowing I squeezed 110% from them”

except the parts are people so the driver is evil as well as stupid

there’s an reluctance to hold a tool maker responsible for how others use that tool, but when a company runs the website that encourages teens to kill themselves or the one that creates non-consensual explicit images of women and children, someone at that company should be criminally fucking liable

On this Rose Parade eve-eve-eve, I have brought you a silly thing I have made.

This will randomly generate a list of Rose Parade floats, including the award it won, for what ("innovation in floral design"), who built the float, what it's of, and the flowers & natural materials needed to create it.

2025 was a massive year for us, doing so many things I had only ever dreamed of and some things never thought were possible. Snorkeling and sailing on our own in the Great Barrier Reef is probably one of the highlights of our life now so I hope I'll always remember it (no underwater pics) 🐢🐠🐬🦈🐙⛵

Devastated that a realistic size, plush Companion Cube I made 15 years ago is now, inevitably, going to the dump 😭🔥

If you're in the giving spirit and have some free time soon, go through the games you've played and give them a review, it means a lot to Devs 🥹💖

People defending their and other's use of GenAI seems inherently antisocial, no? The, "I'd love to remove the humanity from these processes so it's a little easier for me and / or the higher ups" kinda attitude. The argument that we can't make games without it now is just so baffling to me.

It's hard to nail down my personal GOTY as I mostly played games released before 2025. I think if I had to name some (no particular order) I'd have to say up there is:
- Twinkleby
- Date Everything
- Wirm
- Dogpile
There are many that might be up there that I just haven't had a chance to play too.

Truly devastating that I can't play more than five minutes of Blue Prince without getting sick. It's not their fault, I've had to give up all FP and most TP games. Idk what specifically makes me nauseous nor if there's anything I can do to stop it. I totally believe it's GOTY though, congrats!

Why are so many AI people trying to get into hobbies they absolutely despise? "Fuck reading just give me the summary", Fuck art just make it for me", "I got ideas but fuck actually writing" like??? Maybe just find something you enjoy doing and do that?????

(We'll still get the rating even if the next 2 reviews are negative, but don't be mean 😠)

We spoke to a dozen professional concept artists who are currently or have previously worked in game development about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs any easier.

Zero said it did. Most said it made things harder.

Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder
“The ‘early ideation stages’, when worlds are being fleshed out by writers and artists, are literally crucial to the development of a game’s vision,” said one artist.

if you’re not an artist with experience in studio environments it might be hard to appreciate just how much genAI feels like a conman claiming to have made a gun that kills artists and every ceo lunging for it and pulling the trigger a few times

learning the gun doesn’t really work isn’t a comfort

every weird interview or claim about genAI makes more sense when viewed through the lens that this suite of technologies is a solution looking for a problem

every use case is a compromise and we already had solutions that in some cases are now being removed or replaced to bolster the case for genAI

RJ is absolutely right here, I would add that concept artists more often than not serve as the filter for reference going into the project. We build reference libraries and understandings of an exceptionally diverse range of information and how that relates to the project.
The thing thats so insidious about using AI this way is that one of the main ways artists get hired are studios looking for art references and they find us and reach out.

This is removing a major avenue to get work if they can just generate nameless derivations of our ideas.
