I don’t know what Canada should do about Canada Post but this ain’t working. If it’s a flyer for La-Z-boy, by god it gets delivered. But a paid package with a delivery window of 11:30-3:30 today as provided by the app? According to an agent that’s just an estimate for both the time *AND THE DATE*!

I have to share this wrenching comic by artist Savannah Tries based on her interview with a 60s scoop survivor (who wished to remain anonymous). This dismal chapter in Canadian history haunts the survivors and this country to this day.
Seeking Stones: Grief in Foster Care — Grief Matters
This month’s cartoon is by guest artist, Savannah Tries. Savannah spoke with a person, who wishes to remain anonymous, about their experiences of grief and healing after being raised in foster care as...

This is exactly the way everyone should be thinking. LLMs are thieving, lying, hallucinating, manipulation machines.
I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

Holy Dinah. The whole damn thing is quotable. And beautiful. And we need more humans in this sort of creative space. “But your private, cloistered reveries turn out to be one of the best ways to create that shared, inclusive space that can shelter other people.”

I haven’t built a plastic model in decades. I have to say I’m enjoying the heck out of building a model Honda RA272 (a Formula 1 race winning car from 1965). The engine is nearly complete. Paint and cement have come a long way since 197x.

Just caught up on #LasVegasGP. There’s 2 hours of my life I’ll never get back. What an uninspired race/circuit.

Today, Ukrainians honor the memory of those who perished during the Holodomor — the genocide orchestrated by the USSR in 1932–1933 to crush resistance to the communist regime and to erase Ukrainians as an independent nation.

You should take the time to turn these off if you still use or have a gmail account.
Google has started automatically opting you in to let it read your stuff to train AI. You need to turn this off in SEVERAL places in your settings (not just for Gmail), if you want to maintain privacy and confidentiality.

There are two of these stories in circulation. This one about Meta/Facebook (which includes Instagram & Threads) and the other about Twitter/X. Everyone who stays on these platforms is making a conscious choice to support these platforms and people. If you don't support this, leave.

Vital piece of investigative reporting from Sky. They've uncovered the X algorithm which feeds users extremist right wing material from the moment they join the site. It is a far-right radicalisation engine, by design.

It's slightly weird by also refreshing that I check every day to see if @chuckwendig.bsky.social (a favourite author) has reviewed my favourite apple! (He hasn't yet; some similar apples, even some related apples, but not my fav). In the meantime, you can find his reviews over on his feed.
