I'm starting to think that the ease of use in our apps can inadvertently lead to a friction to engage.

We don't have to linger on anything that challenges us, or even consider it for too long as we simply just rush past it to the next dopamine hit.

Which leads to optimising for apps like Sora.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question about what folks should know about using LLMs to generate #rstats: I've summarised the feedback with a few of my thoughts at gist.github.com/hadley/77d42...

New blog post since @posit.co's Positron is out of beta: Positron is great for code, but macOS has better programs specifically for writing with Markdown. I found a neat way to quickly open a Quarto file in an external program like Typora with VS Code Tasks. www.andrewheiss.com/blog/2025/07...

ICYMI githistory.xyz is a great way to navigate #git commits and visualise how a file has been changing across commits

Just replace github.com with github.githistory.xyz in the URL and enjoy! #rstats

In Georgia, a mom facing eviction reached out to DFCS for help. They offered her nothing. Soon the agency took her kids away because of "inadequate housing."

The state then paid *$6,200 a month* to house her kids in foster care.

One of the most important and infuriating stories I read this year:
When Families Need Housing, Georgia Will Pay for Foster Care Rather Than Provide Assistance
In more than 700 cases over five years, Georgia reported inadequate housing as the sole reason for taking a child into foster care, a WABE and ProPublica analysis found. Advocates say it would be chea...

For years, I've wanted to create an #rstats package bringing the power of Mapbox to R users.

After a few failed attempts, I finally got {mapgl} over the finish line in 2024 (with some help from #GenAI).

Get started with an interactive globe in one line of R code, and build from there!

Had not realized that R (>=4.0, per StackOverflow) provides selective function loading. Nice way to avoid naming conflicts.

Instead of barfing a package's entire namespace into your environment when you don't need to:

library(stringr, include.only = c("str_extract", "str_remove"))
