At least one other positive thing - www.egscomics.com/comic/falsek...

Right. First story page of 2026. Time to put something hilarious in the announcement post! It's hard to think of something under this much pressure, but fortunately, ironic failure works.

Oh, right! One of the whole inspirations for the world of my novel was an explanation for really quirky magic and spell rules!

"It's magic. It doesn't HAVE to make sense! But there's an explanation for why it doesn't have to make sense that DOES make sense, and that loops around so it makes sense."

Sonic walked through the automated doors of the grocery store where he was greeted by a golden-eyed cat with light purple fur. This greeting consisted of her standing by the entrance while wearing an employee shirt and staring at her phone.

I’m going to write extremely mundane Sonic The Hedgehog fan fiction, as in so mundane that it’s extremely questionable why I’m using Sonic characters.

I plot to do this both as a writing exercise and so I can honestly say I wrote Sonic fan fiction.

Also so I can baffle anyone who looks it up after

So how many electric cars does it take to offset the environmental impact of adding generative AI to something like Twitter?

That’s both snarky AND a legitimate question! 🎉

I once gave Grace a present to apologize for her serious backstory.

I might wind up giving Hope something for all the inherited feelings of guilt and identity issues.

Posting late again because of a fist fight with an electric grizzly bear.

(This is a lie. It wasn't electric.)

(Has a story moment idea for a scene I wasn't sure how to handle. Gets chills and tears up a little)

Yeah, okay, that might work, brain 😭

I feel the concept of mainstream is fading as more people have freedom of choice in their entertainment.

There's still things that are more widely popular, but gone is "one of these shows airing on Thursday will be the thing everyone cares about."

I think casting broad nets is increasingly not it.

It's about to be the most magical time of the year: When we find out who remembered to update the copyright dates on their comic templates.

(I imagine some could be automatic, though that sounds like a potential issue if working in advance.)

I expect to post late. If anyone asks, this was because I was out partying on New Years eve.

It 100% has nothing to do with me oversleeping after the Christmas break made my sleep schedule weird, or indecisiveness about visuals that wound up relatively minimalist anyway.

The trick to looking really clever is to plan out a carp ton of details, just carp TON of details. Then have everything you write be consistent with those details, but don't explain anything beyond what you absolutely have to. Give enough details to be a story, but not so much that there's no debate

Part of me kind of hopes I DON’T get into Ascendance of a Bookworm. There are SO many books in the series. That’s a good thing in theory, but ye gods.

I'm increasingly embracing in-comic footnotes as an alternative to forced recap dialogue and excessive flashbacks.

I haven't done it a lot yet, and I don't want to do it a lot, but the comic started in 2002. Sometimes it's worth slapping some quick backstory into a panel.

That moment when the context of your #MagicTheGathering game is that a badger that's also a mole animated a forest that was then enchanted by a bug, then a tree showed up that made everyone forests, and a dryad made everything all lands, and then forests kept forming and making volcanoes erupt.

What do you mean Ascendance of a Bookworm isn't about a green worm with glasses becoming a dragon?

Fallout 1 video in 2025:

“Now don’t be scared, little ones, but this game is an isometric turn-based RPG! Shocking, right?!”

The portion of their audience that is older than them and consumed Fallout content well before there was a TV show:

“You don’t say.”

“What if I don’t want reconciliation with someone I’m arguing with (especially online)? What if I just want to tell them they’re a jerk?”

I’ve had a think on this, and my answer is I think you should leave them with a simple description of what they’re doing to be a jerk before walking away.
