Comics have impact and lasting value! I just realized I’ve been carrying around this classic by @betsystreeter.bsky.social since June 2009.

Anyone with stats on Christmas gift books can prove this to still be true.

Are we there yet?
The 90/90 rule applies to Ukrainian peace agreements and “vibe coding” AI Slop

“The first 90% of the code accounts for the first 90% of the development time. The remaining 10% of the code accounts for the other 90% of the development time.”

TIL there is a basement in The Alamo! Also, there wasn’t one when PW made the Big Adventure movie.

Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction, and in this case the fiction came true, just as the fortune teller described!
How was novelist Stephen Harrigan supposed to properly contextualize, in only eighty words, what is destined to be the most berserk and beloved Alamo artifact of all—Pee-wee Herman’s bicycle?

He tried: https://www.texasmonthly.com/being-texan/pee-wees-bike-alamo-basement/

We found it!

The poet Piet Hein offered a gem on what’s enough, but he didn’t specifically mention time or money. Maybe this episode will uncover some truths.

“Of drink and victuals
And suchlike stuff
A bit too little
Is just enough.”
For a new episode of "This is Uncomfortable," we’d love to hear from YOU. We want to know – "How much money is enough?"

You can call our hotline and leave a message at 347-RING-TIU or email us at uncomfortable@marketplace.org to share your answer for a chance to be featured!

This is why it’s so fun and inspiring to be around creatives: authenticity !
When people say they thrift they also mean it is a hobby to go hunting for stuff regularly. You have to enjoy doing stuff like this! I genuinely think people forget this is a thing people want and like to do and not just a way to cover their junk that magically looks good every time

This human has a way with words - will #sloptimization catch on as a hashtag as widely as the sadly ubiquitous #aiSlop?
#AISlop is a product of recursive optimization, of prediction algorithms no longer only used for distribution, but for production of content. It's reaction economies and recommendation logics feeding back onto themselves, social media feeds turned into feedback loops. Let's call it #sloptimization

An AI remake by Grok would cast bankers in a more favorable light, no doubt
TIL _It's a Wonderful Life_ "...represented rather obvious attempts to discredit bankers by casting Lionel Barrymore as a ‘scrooge-type’ so that he would be the most hated man in the picture. This … is a common trick used by Communists.”
Considering History: When the Federal Government Came for Christmas Films | The Saturday Evening Post
The movie industry’s complicity in McCarthy’s anti-Communist witch hunts can be seen in the era’s Christmas films, as they turned away from stories like “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

“Writers” may try to say they are “writing” when in fact they are slopping
'The words are AI, but the idea is all me.'

'This is MY story, I just needed telling it.'

'The voice is authentically my own.'

'The novel is mine, but I used AI to write it.'

TIL a bit about bothies
I'd already had a big day on the bike the day before and been massively over-optimistic with my energy levels - don't think I've ever been more grateful on a ride than I was to reach Allt Scheicheachan bothy and shelter for a bite to eat and a little lie down before riding back to the van...

Staying at one spot can reveal how things change in front of us. Most of us are too busy to stay still for long and miss the impermanence and liveliness.
✨ A few years back I stood outside Wells Cathedral for a full day and photographed the impact of the light on the front facade. I was amazed at the outcome - at how a single entity could morph and change under the changing light. 🌅 #thread
