In 2002 my hubs and I got to spend a week in #Rome #Italy! It was a trip of a lifetime.

My camera was ever present and I have waited for all these years to paint some of the photos from that trip.

It was finally warm enough for me to get back into my studio. The sun was melting the snow on my metal roof and snow kept crashing down but thru it all I got to paint!

We got a lot of snow in Arkansas yesterday which is really unusual.

I tried working in my studio with the heater on and a space heater going full blast but I was too cold

So I spent the day inside, under my heated blanket with my cats on my lap.

Time for a goo at another painting. "Youghal Main Street" was painted a couple of years ago, or finished then anyway. Really it started in my head when I was cycling in the east Cork town one particularly green sort of day. #SpeirGorm #ArtAdventCalendar
Landscape format in acrylics. Under a bright lime sky we have a view from a junction down a main retail street of bold shadows straight ahead to the clock tower arch gate at the end, and to the left in the foreground is another street. With bright sunlight coming from right the buildings on right are in shadow, mostly pale blue upper stories and dark blue shop fronts, with dark blue shadow stretching across half of turquoise road. A pattern of shadows is also on side street to left. Double yellow lines are on roads. Closest building on the right is pale pink and blue. Buildings on the left are in the sun so are bright most notably the yellow 3-story building at the corner nearest viewer. It has red corner blocks, red Kodak signs, and dark windows with shadows under window sills. The building next door to it is red with a red canopy, then further down the street the buildings are pale pinks and blues. Black bollards are on the pale turquoise footpath. A large watercolour and ink drawing of a great-blue heron by me. It close to life size. The heron contains the only colour in the piece. With a sense of controlled stillness and purpose, the marsh king silently wades through the cattails and aquatics plants of his realm. Leaving things as undisturbed as possible but for small ripples around his lifting foot. There is a sharpness, a danger to the serenity of the scene. A danger easily missed if the heron had been cloaked in the colours of his marsh. The beautiful blues, coppers and trailing feathers distract us briefly from the fierce ancient gaze and knowledge that he is the balance of life and death in his world. A close up of my heron’s eye. This section is about as big as I usually draw my birds. The linework is intense over watercolour washes. The heron’s eye is bright yellow and shining
