Liverpool haven’t just lost games since September. They’ve lost something deeper.

Simon Hughes says removing Slot would betray the club’s identity, I’m not fully convinced.

My response to his Athletic piece is now up on my Substack.

Liverpool still have elite players. They still dominate spells of games.

So why do they feel easier to play against?

A deep dive into the summer window, tactical drift, and what’s been lost.

Did Liverpool Get the 2025 Summer Transfer Window Wrong?
With the benefit of hindsight and the patience this rebuild demands.

It’s a window you’d do ten times out of ten: elite signings, squad refresh, modernisation.

But key profiles are gone, the team is less recognisably #LFC and fans are frustrated.

Recruitment disrupted the balance ... Poor coaching compounded it.

Jamie O’Hara has to be one of the dumbest pundits on Sky. Which is some going when you consider they employ Paul Merson and Jamie Redknapp

#LFC won the league, then changed almost everything.

Key profiles gone. Identity drifting. Since Forest and PSV, the team is more compact, less aggressive, less recognisably Liverpool.

Recruitment mattered. Coaching made it worse.

This Kevin guy has a Batman throat tattoo ... Which of course means he'll be bagging the winner

That's a fantastic finish from Wirtz.

Really shouldn't take us being diabolical to realise playing with tempo and urgency is the way to go.

I also hate being a miserable, pessimistic shit but this is what they’ve done to me
We are an utterly pathetic unit and this unbeaten run has been the biggest ‘false dawn’ we have seen

FULHAM WHO ARE MISSING THE SAME AMOUNT OF ATTACKERS AS US ARE MANUFACTURING MORE QUALITY CHANCES

It's pretty much like the language the press has used to describe the plight of Palestinians. They just die, no mention of who kills them.

Macron's statement sounds as if Maduro just woke up this morning and decided to retire and immediately move to the Maldives.

Little bit late on this one but that Trinidad Chambliss performance against Georgia with Lane watching in 4K is so fucking beautiful

Priority has to be a CB; preferably one that can also play FB. I like that City and Arsenal have defenders who are versatile. We really only have Gomez who can do that and he's made of crisps.

January for me is a winger, summer priority are 2 CBs and a CDM

Fast, direct winger who can play either side would be my priority.
Essentially I want 2017 Sadio Mane

If you were to sign one position and profile for #LFC this January what would it be?

The manager’s December plan is clear: avoid mistakes, play safe, delay overloads.

It works … until it doesn’t. Vertical threat is gone. Creativity constrained. Structural weaknesses remain.

Plain and simple … we stink.

I want you to revisit that performance whilst remembering that Klopp used to FLOG Daniel Farke like he owed him money

We desperately need a late runner into the box with the fullbacks actual being able to put a cross in ... Even if it's Dom/Jones.

But it's another example of why we need another attacker in the January window and in the XI!

One of the biggest benefits of this run has been Wirtz/Ekitike developing a relationship on the field ... Combination play and intelligence has really meshed well together last 3/4 games
January 1, 2026 at 5:48 PM
Surely that's a penalty?

I've seen less grappling from a Peak Kurt Angle
January 1, 2026 at 5:45 PM
Ekitike is bloody brilliant

2026. Let's start it on the right note Redmen!
