In #MathsToday I was asked "isn't modulus- argument form basically polar coordinates?" Before i moved into the next activity where we were plotting various complex numbers on an argand diagram with a polar grid...

In #MathsToday I taught another class circles formulae and did not use the teddy bear task! Amazing how much two different classes can be completely different teaching!

Also in #MathsToday I finished teaching OCR MEI's numerical methods unit for the first time.
This was with a bunch of students the standard I have never seen before in 17 years of teaching A levels. The questions were deep and true to form they continued to ask right to the end.

We’re into week two of the ballot, time to get back to basics.
Why vote? Because your voice is the only way to change what’s happening in our sector:
📉 Falling pay
⚠️ Rising insecurity
💬 Broken national agreements
Every vote counts.
Vote YES. Post your ballot.

Spent far too many hours playing around with applications of De Moivres theorem this week.
But the good news is that I've prepared 8 pages and worked solutions for the *TLMaths The A-Level Further Maths Core Pure Textbook Part 2*
We really need to think about sensible names for books in future

In #MathsToday (actually Friday) I gave my year 12 students a question from 1961 which I found in book my colleague found in a charity shop.
They were loving it. Plus I was loving the discussion on how one would solve it using numerical methods without a calculator.

Busy week ahead. I'm about halfway teaching a numerical methods unit for the first time, and it's been fun!
Focus finally switching to writing a textbook...

Spending the morning writing questions on Midordinate rule and it feels a bit like I'm finally getting into the academic year again.
Asked, how do we find time to write a book and teach full time?
Turns out it's my hobby.

Today I did my 2nd year 1 A level lesson for the first time in a few years. I was torn on whether to move on or pause to do questions, & found myself doing the latter because it turns out I like our textbook 🤣
I wonder if they'll get sick of it. I haven't taught like this for 7 years!

Just a reminder that if you are about to start teaching #ALevelMaths, this book is available from the Mathematical Association @mathematicala.bsky.social online shop. In my completely unbiased opinion, it's really quite useful.

Maths teachers: "Well, the fx-991CW may be almost universally hated, but at least there aren't fake versions going around like the fx-991EX, screwing over students who unwittingly bought them"

Uh oh, a fake Casio fx991cw! We think the blue tint display on the left hand one is a hint that it’s fake (apart from the answer!!) Anyone else seen these doing the rounds? #ALevelMaths
