3,000 ICE agents at a cost of $18 million per week manage to arrest 4,000 immigrants, most of whom are not criminals, all while terrorizing a city and negatively impacting local business. Moral issues aside (as hard as it is to do that), doesn’t seem like a good ROI even for the racists.
• 4,000: Number of people arrested in Minnesota since the beginning of Operation Metro Surge. That is an average of 61.5 arrests each day for the last 65 days of the federal occupation. • 70,766: Number of people held in ICE detention nationwide as of January 2026. ICE detained 32,321 people nationwide in January alone. Federal officials have been notoriously tight-lipped about arrest numbers in Minnesota, but even the most conservative estimates figure over 3,000 people have been detained during Operation Metro Surge. • 25.8%: Percentage of current ICE detainees nationwide who are currently facing pending criminal charges. The remaining 74.2 percent of detainees either have no criminal record or have already been convicted and released. • Over 30,000: Number of volunteers trained as constitutional observers who follow and document federal law enforcement activity across 77 of Minnecta'e O7 counties It's unclear, as of now, how much progress the Trump administration will have made in achieving its alleged goal of capturing the “worst of the worst" in Minnesota by the time the operation ends. But in a review of Department of Homeland Security data in mid-January, a local Fox affiliate found that out of 2,000 people arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, just 5.2% were violent convicted criminals. That tracks broadly with other assessments of national data that finds that only a small fraction of the people swept up in ICE raids have violent records, and that the "worst of the worst" narrative is a fig leaf for far broader mass deportations.

Apparently, the DOJ no longer believes that refusing a congressional subpoena is worthy of being held in contempt of court. We know they think all right wing republicans are above the law, but I’d love to have seen the excuse for the hypocrisy if the Clintons had refused and been prosecuted.
On Monday, the day that the DOJ's high court response was due, it didn't file a brief opposing Bannon's petition, as the government routinely does when criminal defendants petition the court. Rather, the DOJ told the justices that it was making a motion in the trial court to dismiss Bannon's case, and it asked them to vacate the appeals court ruling against him and to send the case back so it can be dismissed in the lower court. "The government has determined in its prosecutorial discretion that dismissal of this criminal case is in the interests of justice," the Trump DOJ's Supreme Court filing said. It didn't explain why it thought that justice required dismissal. It takes at least one justice to request a response to a petition, but it's not public which justices make such requests.

It’s no surprise that this openly misogynist regime that advocates ALL woman know their place & be happy serving a husband & making babies, lose their right to vote & stop stealing jobs from men would support the cancellation of woman’s studies. What’s surprising is how fast schools are caving.

So for Trump intention matters as much as results. A graze on the ear warrants life in prison, but shooting someone 10 times when they’re already incapacitated, or shooting someone in a car that’s driving away, doesn’t get prosecuted at all. Thank you, Cannon, for making the rules abundantly clear.

The Inquirer With Fetterman aboard, every Democrat voted against the appropriations package because of the inclusion of funding for DHS. The party previously vowed to block DHS funding in the aftermath of federal immigration agents' fatal shooting of two Americans in Minneapolis this month. Sen. Dave McCormick (R., Pa.) voted to advance the bill. Fetterman's vote came as a surprise given the senator's comments earlier in the week, when he said he would "never vote to shut our government down, especially our Defense Department," one of the agencies that would have received funding from the appropriations package.

@fetterman.senate.gov is finally showing SOME resistance to ICE, but if he isn’t willing to vote no on funding his words are useless. Empty gestures that criticize Noem but praise the operation and Trump’s “border security legacy” don’t help the situation, or fetterman’s reelection chances. Shameful

"She is betraying DHS's core mission and trashing your border security legacy." Fetterman, of Pennsylvania, stressed that the operation in Minneapolis "should stand down and immediately end," adding that it has become a "dangerous urban theatre." Despite his grievances, Fetterman also said in a social media post that he won't vote to partially shut down the government over the Minneapolis shootings, breaking from the majority of Senate Democrats.

All but one Republican, Rep. Thomas Massie (Ky.), voted for the measure. The seven Democrats who sided with Republicans were Reps. Henry Cuellar (Texas), Jared Golden (Maine), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (Wash.), Laura Gillen (N.Y.), Don Davis (N.C.), Tom Suozzi (N.Y.) and Vicente Gonzalez (Texas). The bill also provides billions of dollars in funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the | Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the U.S. Secret Service, the Disaster Relief Fund and other programs and agencies.
