It's October, and our team is on the hunt for books that go bump in the night.

Fortunately, @anndavilacardinal.bsky.social's newest YA horror novel, You've Awoken Her, more than delivers.

We don’t have much to add to this week’s chat, but we’re loving this behind-the-scenes look at a (difficult!) part of the writing process. #kidlitchat
TOPIC: Queries, pitches, log lines, synopses, comps--all the stuff that someone other than you needs to see (sometimes before they agree to see your work itself!). What are you especially good at? What do you dread? Any tips for coming up with good versions of any of those steps? #kidlitchat

Cathy's book, THE LITTLE RED CHAIR, was a @cybilsawards.bsky.social
finalist and is a beautiful look at a family chair loved for generations. She also has a nonfiction book PEW: THE STINKY AND LEGEN-DAIRY GIFT about a 1,400-pound cheese wheel given to President Andrew Jackson.

Cathy was in my first critique group. She was a school librarian and also hosted my first author visit. #megakidlit #nh #booksky

My next #knitting project is this library card vest. 😍 For oldies like me who knew what a borrower’s card looked like. Hahaha. #booksky

The Cybils awards are taking a hiatus this year. If you are looking for kidlit, middle grade and YA recs, please check out amazing winners from past years. Every time one of us celebrates a good book on any platform or offline, we are supporting literacy and empathy.

Books help.
And I also love that you might not have ever seen some of these books on other awards lists or book lists, which means that having won the CYBILS award means they might make it into the hands of even more kids! ~ Laura @ Literacious
